WHAT IS A MYTH?
Collected body of stories
Explains nature, history and customs
Some people believe they are real although all have been proven that they
are fiction
Example: The myth of Pandoras Box
Pandora was a tempter. She was given a box and told to keep it
sealed. After disobeying her orders, the box released evil on all of the mortal
world.

GREEK MYTH:
SIRENS
Sirens were monsters with a body of half bird half
women.
Their song lured sailors to their death.
Odysseus filled his crews ears with melted wax.

Odysseus was tied the mass of the ship and

released after they safely passed the island.
If they failed to lure a sailor to his death, one or
all of the sirens would drown themselves.

GREEK MYTH:
LOTUS EATERS
The Lotus Plant, when consumed cause people to
forget their identity and to crave more plants.
Odysseus sent his men to investigate the land of the
Lotus Eaters.
When Odysseus found his men he had to force them
back to the ship.

GREEK MYTH:
ISMARUS
Odysseus was troubled by storms sent by
Poseidon.
He stopped at the island Ismarus, taking it by
surprise without losing a single man.
Odysseus ordered them back to the ship, but
the men wanted to stay longer.
Cicones gathered and sent an army, killing
seventy-two of Odysseus's men.
