English and Spanish Settlements in the 17th Century

The English and the Spaniards both moved to America to find better opportunities and find
new things that they wouldn't of found if they staid in their homeland. The Spaniards were in the
look out for gold, while the English colonist sought Freedom both looking forward to different
things. That is the reason why the Spanish people settled in the southwest while the English
people settle in New England, both having really different aspects of politics and economic
development.
The Spanish in the other hand moved to the United States of America from recently living in
some part of Latin America. But what they didn't realize was that moving was not that great of
idea because they only moved because they thought they were going to find a lot of gold but they
actually hardly found any. That affected them in their type of political development. Also the
Spaniard moved not only for the gold but also because they wanted to convert the Native
Americans to Catholicism, because the Spaniards needed for the Native Americans to be like
them even though they looked different in skin colors. But what they wanted was to find gold
and convert the natives to Catholics but they had a slight problem with their government it was
being autocratic (having all the power). So the Spaniards needed to go back home because the
queen of spain had only send the Spaniards to America to do their job and return.

In other terms, the also autocratic government didn't work for the English settlements. Most
of them only came to America because they wanted religion freedom and not only that but the
English settlements also wanted to live a better life with their families they also decided to bring
their families over to America and live their with them and start a new complete life. The English
settlers first started with the self-government, and walk themselves up to more.
America as we know started of with tribe of Native Americans then the Spaniards and the
English started to come and settle in America and then meet the Native Americans and thought
they could take their land and basically own them that is why the Spanish tried to convert the
Native Americans to their religion because they were doing it to their convenience. That is the
reason why both the English colonies and the Spanish colonies both are important but one is
important for its religion purpose of moving to America and the other important colonies the
English are important but their important because of it politics and just basically actually making
a new life in the Americas.
Know you may wonder well yes the English settled somewhere in the Americas and with the
Native Americans but were in America? Well they settled in the Royal Colonies. Earliest: VA and
MA. Along the Lantie coast. While the Spanish were only sponsored by the crown couple; SW,
CA coast, St. Augustin, Santa Fe, NW TX and CA. Which means they were pretty separate from
each other but they were in America for different reasons.
In conclusion the Spaniards moved to America to find gold and convert the natives into
catholic that was their main reason, so that falls into religion. And the English settled in

America because they wanted freedom of religion and because they also wanted self-government
and had their self-government their. So that is why this two settlements are great to talk to about
religion and politics because they both have something of each to talk about that makes it
important.
