Instructional Plan

Learning Characteristics:
A certificate level course including 8 men and 3 women. Prior knowledge of camera work,
lighting, basic computer skills, audio composition, and producing range average to above
average amongst the group. Majority of group are kinesthetic learners.

Learning Concept:
This section includes the following:

The intended instructional setting will be set in a classroom setting. This

setting will also have a television production set up in areas around the
building used for classroom. There will be an outside environment for field
experience and camera work. Studio for audio recording and editing will be
set up, as well as a video editing suite with 6 computers available for use.
All areas are available for students use.

The intended application setting will be set inside of the classroom with
many assignments set as homework assignments done outside of the
classroom environment. It can be up to the students discretion for
individuality purposes during assessments.

The learning context information will provide a major role in producing the
instructional plan. This will provide a structure for the plan, from the
beginning basics to the more advanced areas of the program at the end. The
assessment part of the plan will be project based of the material learned in
the program based on the learning context.

Instructional Plan

Needs Assessment:
1. What is the learning problem or opportunity?
Television shows today are being produced by the dozens because of the high demand of
reality based television or even television programs that require seasons of production to
get to the final episode. It is what people want to see, more television programs and live
television moments.
2. What is currently available?
Special made programs are only available in Major Cities across the nation. This program
will bring the same aspect of learning in a less package.
3. What should be available?
Less expensive programs and programs that will have basic knowledge skill classes as prerequisites for the students. This will help in the transition to the more intense programs
and production.
4. Explain the gap analysis between what is available and what should be available.
The only cities offering a recognized accredited program for television production is San
Diego, Los Angeles, New York City, and Phoenix. There should be more cities to go to
and take those same accredited classes to get into the high end positions these schools
promise their graduates.
5. What is your recommended solution for filling the gap?
The resolution for filling the gap is to offer the same high quality accredited program,
facility access, prior knowledge based instructors, at a much more reasonable cost.

Instructional Goal:

Instructional Plan

Goal:
Student should understand how to successfully operate a dv camera, properly light the
subject that is in front of the camera, be able to use and operate the audio equipment, direct the
program the matter at hand, and also edit the material that was recorded efficiently to tell the
story that is trying to be told successfully.

Objective:

Student will be able to successfully adjust the settings, white balance and operate the
dv camera for use.

Student will be able to successfully direct the program or material being filmed.

Student will be able to successfully operate the microphone and audio switchboard
for use.

Student will be able to successfully edit the material that was filmed with linear and
non-linear formatted editing equipment.

Performance-Based Objectives:
The student will be able to film, light, properly add microphone to the subjects and edit a
news story of choice given a camera, light fixture, microphone and linear editing equipment, with
perfect white balance, perfect audio composition, and minor errors or 80% accuracy based on
errors of editing in the finished product.

Instructional Plan

The student will be able to film, light the material, properly add microphone on the
subject, and edit a commercial of choice given a camera, light fixture, microphone, and computer
with non-linear editing software with perfect white balance, perfect audio composition, and minor
errors or 80% accuracy based on errors of editing in the finished product.

Summative Assessment and Learning Outcomes:

The student will be able to produce a commercial and also news story successfully from
filming the subjects, putting the microphone on the subject or subjects, lighting the
subjects, and then editing the final product to show the understanding of the material in
the program.

Implementation Phase:
The following table will show the way the classroom will break down per week. The delivery
method will become clear. The timeframe in which the workshops and assessments will be due are
explained in the table below as well.

Evaluation Strategies and Outcome Review:

Instructional Plan

Evaluation of the instruction will include a survey done by a fair share of its participants at the end
of each week. The evaluation will analyze the overall experience of the facilitator, as well as the
actual content of the course. There will also be an evaluation at the end of the program of how
many people succeed in going into positions and using the material they learned in the course.

Recommendation:
Based on the analysis of the program, participants and employers recommendations will be made
to improve the course.
