The History Of Film.

Film Began in the 1890s. The

first motion-picture cameras
where invented and the first
film production companies
where established along with
cinemas. In the 180s the films
where only around 1 minute
long and it wasnt until 1927
that motion pictures came with
sound. The first eleven years of
movies display the cinema evolving form a local novelty to an
industry, that established a large scale entertainment facility. The
films themselves even grew, turning into several minutes long with
different angles.
Panning shots was first built in 1897.
Film was mainly created after the discovery of basic animation, like
the praxinoscope, the zoetrope and the thurmatrope. We can also see
how certain films have evolved over time to suit these different
media. Its important to notice how the media has changed along with
the films.
Zoescope
The zoetrope is made up of of a cylinder with small slits cut vertically into the sides.
On the inside surface of the zoescope is a band with frames from a set of
sequenced pictures. As the zoescope spins, the viewer looks through the slits at the
frames directly across. The quick and rapid scanning of the slits keeps the pictures
from blurring together, and the viewer sees a quick succession of frames, making
the illusion of motion. From the late 20th century, devices working on similar
principles have been developed, named analogously as linear zoetropes and 3D
zoetropes, with traditional zoetropes referred to as "cylindrical zoetropes" if
distinction is needed.
Praxnoscope

The praxinoscope was invented after the zoetrope. It was invented in 1877 by
Charles emile reynaud. The word praxinoscope translates into action viewer
essentially the praxinoscope is several images or frames arranged in circular
shape, there are mirrors above those images that are reflected into the viewers
eye. The mirrors are fixed, so then you spin the praxinoscope around the frames
move under the mirror and the viewer can see a moving image.
The praxinoscope was a big step for animation and moving images because it
was the first time the image was reflected off several frames to create an

animation. This theme would be used throughout time until the films we know
today.
Thumatrope
A thaumatrope is an animation-based toy that was popular in the 19th
century. The creation of the thaumatrope, whose name means "wonder turner" or
"turning marvel," has often been credited to the astronomer Sir John
Herschel. although, it was thought that an also well-known London physicist, Dr.
John A. Paris, who made this toy popular. Thaumatropes were the first of many
simple devices that continued to provide animated illusions and entertainment until
the development of modern cinema.
Alice in wonderland
Alice in wonderland was written in 1865. This was before any form of animation
excised. As different forms of movie making came out, such as the zoetrope and
the praxinoscope, we watched Alice and the story grow, adapt and evolve as the
media created more and more ways of telling the story. She was also Ainimated
in Disneys 1951 edition of the story. Alive in wonderland has clearly come a long
way since she was displayed in the magic lantern version of the story.
