Objectives:
3.3 The student will study the exploration of the Americas by
b) identifying the reasons for exploring, the information gained, the results of the travels, and the
impact of the travels on American Indians.
3.5 d) locating the regions in the Americas explored by Christopher Columbus (San Salvador in the
Bahamas), Juan Ponce de Len (near St. Augustine, Florida), Jacques Cartier (near Quebec, Canada), and
Christopher Newport (Jamestown, Virginia).
The student will also use macro-skills such as using ideas to describe, predict outcomes, infer links and
connections between events, deduce causes and effects, and detect such relations such as main idea,
supporting idea, new information, given information, generalization, and exemplification.
Scoring:
The student will be informally scored by a 2 point scale for each question:
2The student is able to listen and answers the question correctly.
1The student does not understand the question and answers incorrectly.
0The student does not respond to the question at all.
Directions:
The ESL specialist will be reading definitions of terms the students have learned about in class to Ivan.
Ivan will be given three vocabulary terms one of them being the correct term to match the definition
being read to him. For each question the specialist will have three terms written on one single card that
corresponds to the definition and has one correct term. The student will need to read the correct term
to the ESL specialist.
