Guidance counselors do more than just give you advice, they also help you plan for your future
and help you get where you want to go. They hand out collage brochures and pamphlets and
help you decide what classes you would need to take in high school. Guidance counselors really
help students in a large amount of ways. They only want to watch and help you succeed in the
life you want to live.
Elementary and middle school guidance counselors help students with more of the emotional
support they need. High school guidance counselors focus more on the students academic
future but they are also there for emotional support as well.
Working conditions (Hours you can expect to work? Risk of injuries? Time of day/time of year?
Indoors/outdoors? Clothing required? Etc):
School counselors usually work in a public or a private school. Career counselors work in
colleges, government agencies and career centers, and private practices. Both of these types of
counselors typically work full time.

The best-paid made $86,680 per year and the lowest-paid earned about $31,920 per year.
Future outlook (will this job be in demand in the future? Why/why not?):
There are some reports that a school counselor employment will increase by 12% from 2012 to
2022. (This is roughly the same as the average for all occupations.)

Following a four-year program, you must obtain a specialized master's degree in school
counseling. You will also need Training, Licensing and/or Certification, highly developed listening
skills, and both written and oral communication skills, compassionate, understanding, and enjoys
working with people of all ages, from youth to parents and school staff members.

Interior designer because I like to create new and stylish things, a chef because I enjoy making
stuff that people like, or an elementary school teacher because I love kids.
And most importantly
Why are you interested in this career? (How long have you been interested in it? What led you
to wanting this job? How does it suit/fit your personality, interests, characteristics, strengths,
etc?):
I have always had this feeling in the bottom of my stomach that I would be a good guidance
counselor because not only have I gone through a lot in my life but I also have great advice to
give to younger students.
