Supplements: - Notebook, folder, pens (black or blue) or pencils and erasers

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course serves as a cornerstone for other business courses students take in high
school and in college. Students will gain an understanding of abilities, interests, career
pathing, and job effectiveness issues that will prepare them to assume social
responsibility as an adult. Topics include: basic business, economics, finance, marketing,
and personal finance.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

Upon completion of this course students will develop an understanding of the many
factors in life that influence business and personal success. Students will have a basic
understanding of entrepreneurship, what is needed to start, manage, and operate a
personal business and how to be successful as a leader and manager. .

COURSE OUTLINE:

This course generally moves at a pace of about one chapter every two weeks. At the
end of each chapter there is a review and chapter test. We do not go straight through the
book, the chapter order is tentatively as follows:

 Business Organization and Management – Chapters 5 – 8


 Business Operations – Chapter 10, 13-14
 Financial Management/insurance – Chapter 19-20

COURSE & CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

Students are expected to


• follow all rules of Skutt Catholic High School;
• be polite, respectful, cooperative and courteous to others;
• arrive in class on time or bring a pass;
• be honest in their work (Disciplines apply to cheating, copying and plagiarism.);
• turn assignments in on time;
• present all answers in complete sentence form, unless directed otherwise;
• be responsible for all work missed because of absence;
• make an appointment with Mrs. Stolinski to discuss any problems, concerns, or
questions.

EVALUATION:

Skutt Catholic Grading Scale

Final exams will count for 5% of the student’s grade

Late work will be penalized 10% the first day. Two days late will be penalized 25%, and
3 days late will be penalized 50%. No late assignments will be accepted after 5 days.
