SITE PLAN A RE-CONFIGURED EASTERN SITE CREATES A MORE GENEROUS, TERRACED ENTRY
LANDSCAPE THAT STREAMLINES THE VEHICULAR DROP-OFF. THIS PULLS THE PARK
LANDSCAPE FURTHER INTO THE SITE AND ENHANCES THE ENTRY PATH.

SITE: FORE COURT/CANOPY THE RE-DESIGN OF THE FORE COURT AREA ENHANCES THE PEDESTRIAN PATH AS WELL AS
PROVIDING A SOUTH FACING TERRACED LANDSCAPE THAT CAN BE USED FOR SEATING
SITE: CANOPY THE ATTENDANT BUILDING WILL BE AN ARCHITECTURAL CONCRETE ELEMENT TO INTEGRATE
WITH THE SURROUNDING LANDSCAPE. THE CANOPY WILL BE FLAT SEAM ZINC-COATED COPPER
SUPPORTED ON STAGGERED STAINLESS STEEL COLUMNS.
SITE: CANOPY THE CANOPY IS DESIGNED TO BE LOW AND DELICATE, BACK DROPPED BY A TALLER HEDGE
THAT WILL RECEIVE A WASH OF LIGHT THROUGHOUT THE DAY. PRECEDENT IMAGES OF A
SIMILAR CANOPY DESIGNED BY TWBTA AT THE CRANBROOK NATATORIUM IN MICHIGAN.

SITE: LIGHTING DETAILS WALKING SURFACES WILL BE ILLUMINATED FROM ABOVE AND THE SIDE TO INSURE SAFE
PASSAGE AT NIGHT
SOUTH ELEVATION SOUTH ELEVATION OF LIMESTONE, WOOD WINDOWS, AND GLASS LIGHT CANOPY. THE EXISTING
LONDON PLANE TREES SCREEN THE ELEVATION, WHICH REPLICATES THE ORIENTATION AND
SIZE OF THE WINDOW OPENINGS OF THE GALLERIES IN MERION.
SOUTH ELEVATION BY NIGHT THE LIGHT CANOPY WILL HAVE A DELICATE, DIFFUSED GLOW. AT THE APERTURES THAT BRING
LIGHT INTO THE SPACE BELOW, THE LIGHT WILL BE MORE INTENSE CREATING A SCULPTURAL
AND ASYMMETRICAL COMPOSITION. TREE BRANCHES PROVIDE ANOTHER LAYER OF TEXTURE.
NORTH ELEVATION THE NORTH ELEVATION IS MORE CONTEMPORARY THAN THE SOUTH AND AFFORDS
GENEROUS ENTRY PROCESSIONS FROM THE PARKING LOT AND PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE. A
CONTEMPLATIVE COURT AND FOUNTAIN PRESENTS A CALM TRANSITION TO THE BUILDING.
LIGHT CANOPY: ELEVATION NIGHT THE NORTH ELEVATION, POSSESSING A MORE CONTEMPORARY FACADE, IS A SERIES OF
LARGER OPENINGS THAT FORM AN ABSTRACT COLLAGE. THE LIGHT CANOPY GLOWS SOFTLY
WITH THE APERTURE FOR LIGHT LOCATED AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE BOX.
WEST ELEVATION A GENEROUS ELEVATED WESTERN TERRACE PROVIDES ACCESS TO AIR, LIGHT, AND
LANDSCAPE. A CATERING BUILDING IS LOCATED TO THE NORTH TO INSURE VISTAS OF THE
RODIN BEYOND.
WEST ELEVATION BY NIGHT BY NIGHT, THE VERTICAL CANOPY SURFACES WILL HAVE A SOFT GLOW. THE UNDERSIDE,
SHAPED FOR DIFFUSING NATURAL LIGHT, WILL BE MORE LUMINOUS FOR NIGHT OCCUPATION.

SHAPED PLASTER CEILINGS

LIGHT CANOPY LAYERS OF TRANSLUCENT GLASS REDUCES AND DIFFUSES THE INTENSITY OF NATURAL LIGHT
DURING THE DAY. AT NIGHT, INTERNAL LIGHTING THAT HAS BEEN CALIBRATED AND ADJUSTED
CAREFULLY PROVIDES A DIFFUSE INTERNAL GLOW. THE ROOF IS COVERED IN PHOTOVOLTAICS.

TERRACE CATERING BUILDING THE TERRACE CATERING BUILDING IS DESIGNED TO FALL WITHIN THE BACK-DROP OF THE
SITE WALLS. JUSTIFIED TO THE NORTH SIDE OF THE TERRACE, THE CONFIGURATION ENABLES
VISUAL CONNECTION TO THE RODIN GATE AND LANDSCAPE ACROSS 21ST STREET.

TERRACE CATERING BUILDING THE TERRACE CATERING BUILDING IS DESIGNED TO FALL WITHIN THE BACK-DROP OF THE
SITE WALLS. JUSTIFIED TO THE NORTH SIDE OF THE TERRACE, THE CONFIGURATION ENABLES
VISUAL CONNECTION TO THE RODIN GATE AND LANDSCAPE ACROSS 21ST STREET.
LOADING DOCK FENCE THE LOADING DOCK GATE WILL TYPICALLY BE IN THE CLOSED POSITION. THE FENCE WILL BE
SOLID WITH SOME ARTICULATION TO BREAK DOWN THE SCALE OF THE ELEMENT WHEN SEEN
FROM THE STREET.

STAINLESS STEEL, AND THE BALANCING WARMTH OF BRONZE AND OAK WINDOW FRAMES.
