COMMUNICATION PLAN OF THE COMPREHENSIVE TECHNOLOGY PLAN

Students entering into the twenty-first century require excellence in education, that
excellence is technology and its implementation throughout the educational curriculum. We
must introduce them to the world of digital technology and information in order to prepare them
for the future. Technology is the tools we will use to empower students to learn at their full
potential and prepare them for the real world of college and the workplace. Just how are we
going to prepare your child for the future? Communication is going to be the main component of
this integration. With technology, it will be easier and faster to keep those lines of
communication open.
TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE COMMUNICATION
Class Website: Our class website is accessible to students and parents. The website, updated
frequently with a calendar of assignments, upcoming projects and video material, should allow
the student to keep up-to-date on what is taking place in the classroom. It is highly encouraged
for parents to view the website frequently to know what assignments your child is working on
and engage them in discussion about current projects. The classroom website allows teacher,
student and parent to all be on the same page to what is due and when it is due. Typically,
parents find it difficult to get information or details from their children about what happened
during school (Olmstead 2013). Any questions about the assignment or process can be
addressed on the website or directly to the instructor. There are also helpful learning tools for
the students to assist them in their educational goals.

GoEdustar: This is a website accessed by parents or students with an ID and password. The ID
and password are issued at the beginning of the academic year or upon registration to the district.
Please contact the administration office to obtain this information if you do not have it.

GoEdustar posts a students grades, attendance, transcripts and any behavioral issues reported.
Grades and attendance are updated daily. Parental involvement in their students academic
progress has a tremendous effect on their achievement (Zieger 2012). This tool is an important
part of your students academic career. Your participation in their education is a key component
to their success.
Electronic Mail: We are a growing nation of busy people. Our time is limited and filled with
many obligations. Email is a great resource to communicate in our fast moving, busy life. The
instructors email is listed on the classroom website and parents and students alike are
encouraged to use this mode of communication. The instructor checks their email frequently so
you are apt to get a quicker response to a question in this format than a regular phone call or
seeking an appointment outside of the classroom to discuss a certain issue.
Alternative Methods of Communication: The instructors phone numbers are listed also on the
classroom website. You may also leave a text message on my cell number. If it is not an
emergency, I would suggest that an email be a more appropriate form of communication. You
may also leave a voice message, if I am unable to receive you call when delivered. What ever
method of communicating you are comfortable with, is the one you should use. We want to keep
those lines of communication open to everyone to achieve the success of the student.
Communication Internet Security and Safety: As with any form of digital communication,
we ask that the student, parent and instructor adhere to the rules for Internet Security and Safety
that are outlined in the School Districts Discipline Code Handbook. We want to continue to
offer you the benefit of using the internet and technology however, responsibility is the key to
insuring that your rights to use it are not jeopardized. Any forms of misuse will be handled
accordingly as outlined in the Handbook. Society cannot wait for Internet safety to be a

required part of the curriculum or depend solely on parents who may not have the knowledge to
teach Internet safety (DeFranco 2011). The student will know what is expected of them, it is
our job to make sure they adhere to it.
In conclusion, technology is upon us and we must advance with the times to insure that
the students have 21st century skills to succeed in college and the workforce. An open line of
communication is needed between student, parent and instructor to achieve this success. Please
feel free to ask questions and discuss any matter you deem important. Our goal is all the same,
to educate and prepare, together we can do it.
