Teaching Assistant
Teaching assistant for a mass communication theory class at the University of North Texas,
working in tandem with a professor in a class of over 300 students
Primarily worked as an aide to the professor. Duties included grading daily and weekly
assignments, handling email correspondence with the students and proctoring tests. Minimal
experience in teaching, largely worked as a liaison between the students and the professor.

Bryan-College Station Eagle, May 2013-April 2014

Copy Editor
News desk editor and page designer for the Bryan-College Station Eagle newspaper, a daily area
newspaper including local, state and international news.
Edited and proofread the daily paper, which included local content and material gathered over a
wire service. Integrally involved in the artistic direction of the paper, using Adobe InDesign and
Photoshop to conceive and execute attractive page layouts and headlines that appealed to our
readership. Was responsible for a weekly special section, Brazos Life, that included local and
wire content for which I conceived and executed the visual and content direction. Trained

extensively on Adobe workshop software, including InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop and


Fireworks, as well as the Falcon editorial system, and used these applications on a daily basis.
Was responsible for the general upkeep of the online Eagle website, becoming familiar with
HTML code and online news presentation.
Vandal Literary Journal, January 2012-May2012

Editorial Assistant
Assistant to the editor-in-chief of a literary and academic journal, Vandal, organized by Texas
A&M University staff and in coordination with the UPREP program at Texas A&M University.
Handled the organization of over 500 online submissions to Vandal, including: proofreading and
editing, maintenance and responsibility for the submissions e-mail account and public relations
with the submitting authors. Supplied over 60 hours of supplementary research at the editor-inchiefs request and was responsible for both the database of submitted authors as well as the
circulation of calls for submission for the journals three upcoming issues. Had input into both
the artistic and literary content of the journal, including selection of to-be-published stories as
well as selection and copyright inquiry of supplementary artistic pieces. Worked on website
maintenance at vandaljournal.com.

Achievements/Awards

Selected as a Mayborn scholar for the 2014-2015 academic year at the University of North Texas
Mayborn School of Journalism. Award included a $10,000 stipend contingent on excellence in
scholarly output.
Nominated for an Undergraduate Professional and Research Experience Project through Texas
A&M University, a highly selective, paid undergraduate research placement program.
