The Dominant Image of Jesus Christ in each of the Four Gospels

The Gospel of Matthew
Jesus in this gospel is presented as Immanuel or God with us. It is shown in this gospel that the
prophecy from the Old Testament came true. Jesus is the Messiah or the promised God. His image in
this gospel is more of a reserved man as His actions are directed by the prophecies. This is
represented in Matthew 5:21-48. The gospel included Jesus birth and public ministry. In addition,
Jesuss image as King is also portrayed in this gospel (Matthew 2:2).
The Gospel of Mark
In this Gospel, Jesus is portrayed as a powerful servant. With Jesus portrayed as powerful, there are
more miracles written than messages in this gospel. It is in this gospel where most of Jesus miracles
are told. Some examples are Jesus calms the storm, casting out demons, feeding of the five thousand,
etc. As for Jesus being a servant, he began his service and ministry through his teachings.
Appointment of 12 disciples also took place in this gospel.
The Gospel of Luke
This gospel focused on Jesus Christs humanity and his perfection. The gospel showed Jesus
relationship with the people. His compassion for the poor, the sick and the needy are emphasized. He
loved and accepted each and every human being. Jesus does more of healings and acceptance of the
poor in this gospel.
The Gospel of John
Jesus as son of God is the main focus of this gospel. Although Jesus is born human, He is an
incarnate of God, the Divine being. Therefore, Jesus as the son of God is represented metaphorical.
The miracles told in this gospel were to point out that He is indeed the Son of God and that Gods
presence is in Him. This gospel include statements of faith and commands from Jesus. In John 20:31,
it says that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might
have life through His name. the gospel of John also focused on the believers and their relationship
with God.
