This report will provide an analysis and evaluation into the research conducted into creating

a bid for an NRL team based in Cairns. I will be analysing the key points of success for an NRL
team and evaluating the proposed success if a team should be implemented in Cairns. This
will be shown with the use of statistics.
The need for another team in Queensland is forever increasing. The amount of talent
coming from Queensland is growing and the lack of top level clubs is forcing them to teams
across the ditch in New South Wales. This is detrimental for Queensland rugby league and
the future of them in the NRL. You dont have to look far to see the extent of the talent
coming from Queensland. Just look at their state of origin 8 year reign against rugby league
heavyweights New South Wales. The talent of Queensland is being forced out of their clubs
to New South Wales because there is no room for the new and upcoming talent in the
pathetic total of three sides north of the New South Wales border. This graph shows where
each player from the Queensland State of Origin side plays for at club level. A staggering
47% play for New South Wales based clubs.

With another Queensland based club in the NRL it would give these players an opportunity
to represent their state at club level and play for a club which are situated near their family
and home.
With these statistics come my bid for an NRL teams based in Cairns, located a five hour drive
north of any other QLD team in the NRL. Cairns has the foundation to support a team in the
NRL. The 155 000 population of Cairns is plenty to support a sustainable crowd each week.
This is just under the 170 000 population of Townsville where the North Queensland
Cowboys are located. The Queensland Intrust Super Cup side, North Pride has also had
much success in recent years. The Pride have sustained large crowd numbers for a QLD cup
team which does not attain much interest with fans. And NRL team would bring much more
interest and fans to Barlow Park to watch the Cairns teams. This interest is shown by the
record crowd figures of the special feature matches in Cairns. 20 000 fans packed Barlow

Park just for a pre-season NRL match between the Cowboys and Sea Eagles, much above the
crowd average of 13 000 fans per game. Barlow Park is not the only stadium in Cairns,
Cazalys stadium in Cairns could also be used for rugby league matches. Such interest from
fans could bring an expansion of Barlow Park to make it more suitable for rugby league and
seat more people.
The statistics show that a need for another NRL team in Queensland is a must. Cairns
Crocodiles is a viable option for the expansion in the NRL.
