Project Title
3-10 words describing your project
Possible Solutions
Background Research
In paragraph form introduce /define key
terms and interesting facts directly
related to your experiment. This section
is written using factual information from
your sources
Requirements &
Constraints
List & describe variables that will affect
product. Criteria states exactly what the
standards of the design will be (i.e.,
Must lift 5lbs. for at least 10 seconds)
Conclusion
Build/Test Prototype
Full/scale size model built
accurately to drawings using
supplies/budget proposed. Each
requirement/constraint accounted
for. Visual representations of data.
Graphs/tables relevant to design
(include labels)
Pictures/diagrams of prototype.
Include labels and captions. Do
not include faces in pictures
Data Analysis
Procedure
Clear summary of steps taken to
build final product. Labelled, detailed
illustration of final product
Table 1: Teenagers that need to be
reminded of chores
Discussion
Here is where you explain why
you got your results. Use
inferences and observations as
evidence to your statements. How
can the results from your test
apply to real-life situations or help
out society? Suggest ways to
change/improve the design or
parts of the design on future
prototypes. What would be a
good follow-up experiment?
Background Research
Include the following in the Background Essay summary:

board
Bibliography will go on the back of the
display board
Purpose
State the purpose that led
you to design this
experiment/design

prediction.
Variables need to be clearly
identifiable from statement

Background
Include the following in the Background Essay
summary:
All important information crucial to the
experiment
Helps the reader understand all components of the
experiments
Materials
COOKBOOK STYLE MATERIALS IN METRIC
Pastry:
600 mls all-purpose flour
2 mls salt
148 mls cold butter or margarine, cut up
89 mls vegetable shortening
96 mls ice water
Apple Filling:
161 mls sugar
79 mls cornstarch
2 mls ground cinnamon
1 mls nutmeg
1 mls salt
1588 grams Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and/or Braeburn apples, each peeled, cored, and cut into 16 wedges
15 mls fresh lemon juice
30 mls butter or margarine, cut up
1
5 mls sugar
To prepare pastry:
Procedure
1.
In food processor with knife blade attached, blend flour and salt. Add butter and shortening, and pulse until mixture
resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle in ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, pulsing after each addition, until large moist
crumbs just begin to form.
2.
Shape dough into 2 balls, 1 slightly larger. Flatten each into a disk; wrap each in plastic wrap and refrigerate 30
minutes or overnight. (If chilled overnight, let stand 30 minutes at room temperature before rolling.)
3.
Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place cookie sheet on rack in lower third of preheating oven to bake pie on
later.
4.
In large bowl, combine sugar with cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add apples and lemon juice, and toss to
coat evenly.
5.
On lightly floured surface, with floured rolling pin, roll larger disk of dough into 12-inch round. Ease dough into 9 1/2inch deep-dish glass or ceramic pie plate. Gently press dough against bottom and up side of plate without stretching.
Trim dough edge, leaving 1-inch overhang; reserve trimmings. Spoon apple mixture into pie crust; dot with butter.
6.
Roll remaining disk for top crust into 12-inch round. Center round over filling in bottom crust. Trim pastry edge,
leaving 1-inch overhang; reserve trimmings. Fold overhang under; bring up over pie-plate rim and pinch to form
stand-up edge, then make decorative edge. Brush crust with some egg white. Reroll trimmings. With knife or cookie
cutters, cut out apple and/or leaf shapes; arrange on pie. Cut short slashes in round to allow steam to escape during
baking. Brush cutouts with egg white, then sprinkle crust and cutouts with sugar.
7.
Bake pie 1 hour 10 minutes or until apples are tender when pierced with knife through slits in crust. To prevent overbrowning, cover pie loosely with tent of foil after 40 minutes. Cool pie on wire rack 3 hours to serve warm. Or cool
completely to serve later.
