For the first verse only (up to “lost it all”), I use first position chords, following which I use the inversions : I do it this way to try and capture the very mellow “stringsy” sound on the full orchestral recording.

There is also a linking piece which the violins play after “now she’s gone”. A basic method to play this is to play an open Em chord and while it’s sounding out play individual notes on the following frets :
