Math 8

9.3 - 2 days
Outcomes
Graph and analyse two-variable linear relations

Objectives
I can create a table of values by substituting into a linear equation.
I can construct a graph from a linear equation using integers.
I can determine the missing value in an ordered pair for a given equation.

Key Questions
How do I create a table of values from a linear equation? How do I create a graph from a linear
equation? How do I determine the missing values in an ordered pair using a linear equation?

Warm up
Along with slide 1, students will take a few minutes to complete the Key ideas review (questions
1-6). Review the answers in order for students to verify their work and have the correct answers
in their notes.

Activity 1
"Before 9.3 Self-assessment"
Students will self-assess themselves using the criteria on their stoplight self-assessment sheets.
Following the slide, they will fill in red, yellow, or green according to their current abilities before
starting 9.3.

Activity 2
Using the notebook file, work through the problems, explain presented concepts, and discuss
questions and curiosities along with typical misconceptions and misunderstandings. Typically,
the students will complete the work on their own and/or take a minute to think through how they
would complete the question before it is done as a class. Have student volunteers to model
answering the questions or problems in the notebook file and have the other students verify
their own work.
To end off the first class, have the students will complete their self-reflection for "during 9.3".
Have the students consider the patterns seen throughout the self-assessment process, and they
will also consider reasons for this pattern.
The next day instruction will resume from wherever the notebook file was left off on the first day,
continuing to work through problems on the worksheet as well as explaining concepts as they

come and clarifying misconceptions and answering questions as they arise.

Activity 3
After the notebook file is completed and key ideas have been reviewed, students will work on
and complete the practice questions for 9.2 working individually and asking questions as
needed. If any concepts would be beneficial to be clarified for the entire class, it will be done
and examples may be done on the board as required.

Activity 4
An exit slip will be completed to verify whether or not the students can show what they know.
This will be done at the end of Thursday's class

Closure
At the end of the second class, the final self-evaluation for 9.3 will be completed. Practice
questions will be due for Tuesday if they are not completed during class time.
The students will be reminded that the Chapter 9 Exam is scheduled for Wednesday.

Assessment
Written work, questioning, reasoning, observation, modelling, answers, practice questions, exit
slip.

Modifications
_____ will continue working with _____ on number orders.
Notebook file for _____
_______ will continue working on addition and subtraction, learning to check his own work with
a calculator.
______ will work on 2 and 3 step order of operations questions.
Limit practice questions for ______, _______, _______, and _________.
