Essential skills

Always save your work as a word document. This is because


RTF doesnt save all of the features you do i.e. headers and
footers if you do not save it as a word document you will lose
your work!

Go onto page layout


Select margins
Change the margins
You may need to choose custom margins if your margin size
isnt on there.

Go to page layout. Click on orientation and choose portrait or


landscape, for page orientation.
For paper type, click on page layout, and choose size, and
select the size you want.

Highlight

the text you want to format into columns.


Go onto page layout
Click columns
Choose more columns, and in here you can select how
many columns you want, and the spacing between them.

Highlight the paragraph you want to edit


Go onto page layout, and under the paragraph section, there
is a part called spacing.
Change the spacing before or after using the arrows, or typing
it in.

Select the text you want to justify


Go to Home
Find the alignment button that has all of the lines matching
up, and click on it

Go to Home and find the icon that has an arrow next to
some lines
Click on it and select the line spacing you want

Serif font has text decorations- feet, flicks etc. Here are some
examples

Sans serif doesnt have any of the decorations, it is plain text

The best

and the best

To create bullet point lists, highlight the text you want to put
into bullet points, go onto home and select the three circles
and lines, then choose the bullet point style you want.
To change indents, go onto home, and click the icons that are
highlighted on the print screen.
These allow you to increase or decrease the indents.

Go onto insert
Click insert table
Click insert table again
Select how many rows and columns you want

When you have inserted your table, click on table tools", then
Layout, and you can delete or add rows or columns.

Right click your picture and click wrap text then select your
options.

Select your image


Go onto picture tools, then format, and select crop photo,
or select one of the editing options such as effect, colour or
corrections

Click insert, then shapes, and then callouts is right at the


bottom. Other shapes can be selected as well.

Click where you want the break to be, then click on page
layout, then breaks then select the break you want.

Click insert, then header or footer

Click insert, then quick parts, then field and select


the thing you want.

Click insert, then quick parts, then field and select the
thing you want.

You can use find to find text within the text, and replace
to change one piece of text to another.
