Differentiation

Review of vocabulary and key information of text from the day before. Students will be
able to choose their QAR questions and their mini projects. Students will be allowed to
answer questions and present in their native language. Students will have the choice to
work in groups or work independently.

Students will be able to find answers to questions using the text and make their own
inferences about the narrative. Students will be able to present their perspective and
thoughts about the text.

The teacher will check the accuracy of answers on the graphic organizer. The teacher will
assess the students ability to express their own thoughts and points of view.

Introduction to Lesson

The class will review vocabulary and key concepts from the day before with a quick
teacher made worksheet. Class will go over answers.

Body of Lesson

Students will receive QAR worksheet with levels 1-4 questions about the text read the
day before. Students will choose which questions they want to answer; students must
choose one question from each level.
Students will be introduced to mini projects and choose which one they want to do. They
will have the choice of working in groups or individually.

Specify:

Descriptive Artwork: Students will search for artwork or an image online that they feel
accurately depicts their own immigration story. Students will write a brief paragraph (3 -5
sentences) on how this image relates to their life.
Descriptive Song: Students will choose a song that they feel relates to their own
immigration story. Students will write a brief paragraph (3-5 sentences) on how the song
relates to their life.
Collage: Students will create a collage either cutting out images from old magazines or
collecting images online that they feel depicts their own immigration story. Students will
write a brief paragraph (3-5 sentences) on how the collage relates to their life.
This activity will spill over into the next day
