PROCEDURE
Introduction
Hook/Attention Grabber: Number Clues
Show the students numbers 1-5 on the white board, review to make sure they know these numbers.
Explain to the students you will be giving them 3 clues to help them figure out what number the lesson will
focus on today.
This number comes after 5 and before 7. This number starts with the letter S. These objects add up to the
number I am looking for (have 6 magnets to place on the white board).
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Do students already know the numbers 1-5? Are students able to guess what the
number is by the clues given?
Transition to Body: Present the answer to the clue, the number 6.
Body

Write the number on the board (6); ask students if they know any other ways to write the number 6.
Write the word on the board (six); ask students if they know any other ways to write the number 6.
Draw 6 circles on the board; ask students if they know any other ways to write the number 6.

(Depending on what the students answer, the order of these steps can be changed)

Use the line magnet to show how to write the number 6 and how not to write the number 6.

Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: Students will complete 2 pages in their math booklet where they will practice
writing and identifying the number 6.
Transition To Next Lesson: When pages are completed, ask students to read a book quietly on the carpet.
