Our Culture
In todays culture, the first thing many of us do when we first
meet someone new or want to know more about a person is
we typically go to their social media sites and "stalk them". We
are creating an identity for this person solely based off of
pictures, articles they may have posted, shares, retweets or
just status about their day. We as a culture "Facebook stalk
but are the labels and ideas we create about a person based
off of these site accurate?
Me How am I perceived?
I have decided to take a look into my own Facebook
page and see what others might see by the things I
post on my page such as pictures, statues, or
shares. My facebook page is actually public, anyone
can go and look up my page so what do they think
about me? What does it really mean?
Profile pictures
Most people start of with profile pictures
We find out who their friends are, what do they look like, what do
the pictures they choose as most important say about who they
are?
Does having a picture of me taking my first legal shot make me a
partier?
Do I love being out doors such as the beach, the mountains, or
out door concerts?
Are the guys in my pictures people Ive dated?
Some times when we stalk, it may be because we are interested in that person. We
may look to see if they have pictures posted with a significant other. While someone
may interpreted that by me making my profile picture a picture of a guy and I as us
dating, that would be a false assumption as they are all just my friends.
Can a lot be said about the pictures that you choose to represent your social media
page? Do people put a lot of thought into choosing this picture? What do the
pictures you choose say about you? For most of us we want the picture that best
represents us. For some it may be what pictures do we look best in, a picture that
holds an awesome memory and for others it may just be another picture. For me,
when choosing a profile picture while yes I want a picture that I look nice in I more
choose one with a great memory.

Your Wall
What do the things you choose to post, share and write say about
you?
Someones facebook wall can potentially say a lot about them if they
choose to. For some the statues bar is like their blog site where they
tell the world every part of their day or how they are feeling. For
others its a place to vent spilling their emotions for others to see and
comment on. Many use it as a plat form to voice their opinions about
something usually going on in the world today. Which usually attracts
for some heated debates.
And for most its just a good place to connect, share photos, videos or
funny memes. Its like a newspaper, you can find out the big news of
the day, whats going on around the world and even your comics
section.
If Im choosing to
write a status it

When first looking at this project many would think I am a huge Facebook user, but Im not.
I probably use it just as much as the typical college student. Laying in bed in the morning or at night I
might hop on and skim through to see what the world is up too. The occasional boredom of waiting on
the next class to start or waiting on a friend, social media makes for a good distraction.
While some of us use it more or less than others we can probably say that most everyone
has a Facebook now these days. Facebook for most is a social norm, and creating ideas about
someone based off of this may for some people be a typical habit. Is it accurate? Does what you put
out for the world to see make for a good judge of character? Whats the difference from judging
someone off of a social media page and meeting them for the first time in real life? I think it depends
on the person being stalked and the stalker honestly.
The question was brought up to me on why I choose to not keep my profile private. Well,
simple I have nothing to hide. I have found that no matter what, people are going to make their own
assumptions about you. Whether they are true or not most of the time it will take awhile for them to
change their opinion. So let them get to know me and let them judge and hopefully they will eventually
create accurate ideas of who I am.
As for why I chose to focus my project on Facebook stemmed from a night a few days
before. A friend from high school and I were catching up one night on everyone we went to high
school with. It was so natural for us to go onto Facebook to find out where they were and each page
sent us from one page to another. It has become such a culture norm. It got me thinking how we were
learning about these people lives on just a few pictures and status. It made me think what people
thought about me if the same thing happened. That was when I decided I would Facebook stalk
myself for this project.
