Stop Bullying Now
What is bullying? The contextual definition of bullying is a person who uses strength or
power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker. Bullying has been around for ages but has
evolved over time from generation to generation. Common places bullying is found are amongst
children, teenagers, and adults. Bullying can be portrayed in many different styles and types
depending on the age. Younger children are more common to use a more direct face to face
bullying form, such as name calling, and direct forms of physical abuse. As children become
older and begin to mature slightly they are then exposed to new forms of bullying and ways to
harass their peers. A major way of this new form of bullying is called cyber bullying. Cyber
bullying is a form of bullying that takes place using the internet to harass, embarrass, or
intimidate others.
Although other forms of bullying are still used among adolescents, cyber bullying is a
predominate way of bullying because it is the most used form of communication between
teenagers in this generation today. This makes it easy to type, text anything you want, whenever
you want about whoever you want. Bullying is still common among adults as well although it
may not be as big of an issue than with children and adolescents. With adults a common place to
find bullying would be in the work environment. Common forms of adult bullying in context is
more rhetorical than any other form in that adults usually tend to avoid direct confrontation with

the person they bully and instead bully someone by talking bad about them behind their back.
Cyber bullying has not always been a problem because up until recent years, social media has
not been a problem and really was not used a lot until this decade.
Now that we have established all the forms of bullying, lets talk about why bullying
should be stopped. Physical bullying is very bad but studies show that mental bullying is worse
than physical bullying. When someone is mentally bullied it can put them through major
depression and make them feel like they are not wanted or loved by society and their family and
friends. People who are mentally bullied tend to do abstract thing such as commit suicide and in
worst cases become angry at the world in choose to not only take their own life but others around
them as well. As stated earlier physical bullying usually does not cause this big of a reaction by
the person being bullied than mental bullying does. What are methods that can be taken to
prevent bullying, and how should the message be delivered to each age group?
First, lets start from the bottom of the age group with children. Usually from the time of
elementary school use the same form of bullying. As stated in the introduction, common forms of
bulling among children include direct forms of harassment and physical abuse. What are ways to
convey a message to children that this kind of behavior is unacceptable? A very good way to
reach out to children is through picture books. The first genre method I choose to reach out to
children is a picture book. A booklet only that captures the childrens attention but keeps them
wanting to read more to find out what happens as the story progresses. For children, the simpler
things are, the easier it is for them to grasp concepts and ideas.
The story book takes the reader on a journey through the life of a kid who is being
bullied at school and also portrays his thoughts and feelings as he is being bullied and how it

destroys his life. The big message that the book shows is that if someone is being bullied and you
see it, then you should stand up for the person being bullied. Basic conventions that conform to
this age group and bullying are, that you should not call people names or use any physical abuse
to someone because you feel superior or want to assert a certain dominance over an individual.
At this age group, this is where children learn important values to carry with them through out
life. At this age, it is most crucial to show children the difference between right and wrong and
how others should be treated. The message that has always been tough to children is treat others
how you want to be treated but this message has not been drilled hard enough for it to actually be
effective. From an early age children are taught the Golden Rule but greed and selfishness
cause people to treat other in a bad way in order to show dominance over them.
The next age group and probably the age group where most bullying is found is among
teenagers and adolescents. Why is bullying more predominate in this age group? Kids are being
exposed to a new age of technology and social media. Now days usually every teenager has a
smart phone which they use all forms of communication with. Social media makes it very easy
for kids to tweet, text, or post derogatory comments about others. This form of bullying as
mentioned before is called cyber bullying. There are not many ways to stop cyber bullying but
now days schools and the law of the land have imposed rules that reflect towards cyber bullying.
The Genre that I choose to reach out towards adolescents is flyers.
Flyers are a good start for this because they can be posted around the school or anywhere
for teenagers to see in order to spread awareness toward cyberbullying and other forms.
Conventions that are included in this genre are that bullying are that should be stood up to and of
people see it then they should do they're best to stop or prevent it from occurring. Cyberbullying

is a form of mental bullying and as said previously in the passage, mental bullying is among the
worst types of bullying since it affects one on a more psychological method not only just
physically. Mental bullying can cause great pain towards the person it is being directed to. Pain
so great that it can cause the person to want to take their own life and also they life of others.
Last but not least the final place where bullying can be a problem is among adults in the
work environment. Although this type of bullying is not as predominate is the others since most
adults are more mature about things, this type of bullying is still a problem. What are ways to
expose and raise awareness to adults about this type of bullying? Most all of Americans as well
as people around the world watch T.V and are exposed to ads and commercials every day. More
times than often people just ignore commercials because they are of no importance to them or
interest. When the commercial has something that catches ones eye it then becomes more
effective. The last Genre I chose to raise awareness for bullying adults is a T.V ad with Tom
Tillis being the spokesman for raising awareness for bullying in the work place. I thought this
would be an effective genre because Tom Tillis is supposed to be The savior of North Carolina
since he is our new elect. People will be interested in seeing what he has to say because he is
considered to be a leader. I think this was a good choice in genres because as I previously stated
bullying among adults is not as big of a deal as it is among children and teenagers. Most adults
aren't even concerned about bullying. This genre would be effective because if adults see a major
political figure trying to raise awareness for something, it could possibly start a fire in people to
do the right thing and stand up for bullying instead of letting it happen. One thing to be noted as
well, children and teenagers watch tv as well, often ties more so than adults. So by raising
awareness through television it would also expose the message to teenagers and kids as well.
