In my classroom respect has been a key component.

My students knew I respected them and they respected me.

When consequences were enforced it was never in a
demeaning way. In the beginning this was a challenge for me
because I was used to using the mom tone or discipline.
Through reflections and discussions with my Cooperating
Teacher. I learned and realized that just stating the
consequence and enforcing it was a much better alternative.
Encouragements have also been a key component. We
celebrated our success. I always let my students know that I
was proud of them and cared for them. Students were
respectful of one another by volunteering to help one another
when they saw a need.

I showed professionalism by always being on time,

dressing appropriately and not making any derogatory
comments about students or other teachers. One of the
challenges I had was listening to other teachers make
derogatory comments about students or other teachers.
It was a very uncomfortable situation. My method of not
engaging in the behavior was remaining silent or
changing the subject when possible.
