From the Teachers Desk

SUPPLIES ARE GETTING LOW- Please send in pencils, paper, composition books,
hand sanitizer, and Kleenex. These donations will be greatly appreciated.
GRADES - Progress reports have gone out. Those reports are a great indicator of where
your child is at. However, things can still change before report cards are issued.
BEHAVIOR- Please encourage your child to follow classroom and school rules. We
understand their holiday excitement, but it is important that cooperation is maintained for
the success of all.
As always, thank you for having us help your child achieve academic success!

Monthly Academic Focus & Key Vocabulary

READING: The students will learn about authors purpose, compare and
contrast, defend and clarify text.

Watermelon Day

WRITING: The students write based on books, facts, and opinions.

PHONICS: The students will decode 2-syllables words, prefix, suffix, blends,
vowel teams, and inconsistent word correspondences.
~vowels, long, short, compound words, silent e, syllables, rhyming words,
alphabetical order, suffix, prefix, vowels, and consonants
MATH: The students will learn about graphing, odd and even numbers, and begin
unit on rectangular arrays.

even, pairs, array, multiplication, horizontal, vertical
SCIENCE: The students will learn about motion and push and pull

SOCIAL STUDIES: The focus is Georgias first people Creek and Cherokee

Our 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Dawn Holmes-ESOL

Read to Succeed is an exciting PROGRAM that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read
for fun. Students who complete six hours of recreational reading earn a free ticket to Six Flags!
The program is available to teachers and schools at no cost to participate, and it's a great way to
motivate kids to read. READ! READ! READ! and log in those hours!!!
