I. Description of Content & Content Type (Fact, Procedure, Concept, Principle):
Students will be given three categories and utilize pictures to put a graph together.

II.Learning Outcome:
The students will represent a picture graph with pictures and organize math information.
III. Curriculum Connection (How lesson fits into larger unit sequence):
Yesterday the students were introduce to graphs Tomorrow the students will be able to organize
ideas in a graph on their own using key terms used in class.
IV. Instruction
A. Engagement (Motivational Activity):
The teacher will show the months October, November and December and ask the students which
month is their favorite. The students and the teacher will discuss what happens in those months.
The teacher will show the students a calendar of those months. The students will draw a picture on
a blank piece of paper that is their favorite month and write a sentence My favorite month is
____________. Its my favorite month because__________ and another reason I like this month
is____________. The teacher and students will make a word wall with important words that the
students can use on their if the student doesnt know how to spell the word.
B. Instructional Sequence (Teaching Methodology):
Step #1: Discussion of drawings
a. The students will share their drawings about the month they picked.
b.The teacher will observe and see if the students are using words from the word wall

Step #2 :Count how many people liked each month


a. In pairs the students will discuss how many people liked which month and the results will be
charted.
b. The teacher will observe the students response

Step #3 organizing pictures on a big graph


a. In groups students will chart the months and discuss what is on the graph.
b. The teacher will listen to what the students say and ask questions.

Step #4:Reflection
a. The students will read their responses: Students will discuss what they learned from each
other
b. The teacher will chart their responses.

C. Application Task:
The students will practice what they have learned on a worksheet on what kind of sport they
like. The worksheet will be similar to what the students did in class but the students will work
on their own. The information for the student will be all on the worksheet.

V. Assessment Strategies:
Formative: The teacher has been observing the students and charted their responses.
Summative: The students will write in their journals about what he or she learned about a month
that they did not know about.
VI. Accommodations for Individual Learners:
Provide examples of pictures. For the visual impaired have bigger print.
For the student with special needs the teacher can explain the lesson again in simpler terms
while the other students are in pairs discussing.
For the hearing impaired the teacher can give the student the information visually done
already.
