UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


The big idea of this lesson is that the students understand the major components of the water cycle.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
The learner will identify key components of the water cycle creating a comic using toondoo with 100%
accuracy.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
GLE 0407.8.1 Recognize the major components of the water cycle.
ISTE 6. Technology operations and concepts
MATERIALS:
Computer with internet access.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
The key concepts of this lesson are to make sure the students fully understand all of the major
components of the water cycle.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson helps the students recall information about the water cycle in pervious lessons by making
them applying their prior knowledge to the assignment.
To build on this lesson use 0407.8.3 standard on the atmosphere.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of
this particular lesson.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction: Begin by engaging the students with questions and discussion. Ask them if they read
comics and discuss how the lesson today is creating a comic. (10 minutes)
Procedures:
Prior to the Computer Lab (20 minutes)
1. Discuss the rules in the computer lab.
2. Discuss on how to locate the ToonDoo website.
At the Computer Lab (30-40 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. Make sure all computers are connected to the Internet.

2. Make sure all students are able to locate the ToonDoo website.
3. Using the projector show the students how to navigate and use ToonDoo to create a
comic strip.
Student Procedures:
1. Open up the Internet and access the ToonDoo website.
2. Using the students imagination create a comic strip of the major components of the
water cycle.
3. Print out their comic strip.

Closure: Students will present their comic strips to their peers. At the end of the presentation the teacher
will collect all of the students comic strips and polls the class for any questions.
