Reflection

This lesson plan was a review of the figurative language we

had previously learned. Many students were mixing up the different
types of figurative language. I decided to include the SpongeBob
drawing (not pictured) to let the students use background knowledge
of SpongeBob to relate it to personification. I also used the idioms as
fun visuals to help the students remember. When it was time for small
groups to work on similes I decided to use their reading groups so
that students would be familiar with certain peers and not feel
uncomfortable if they were not understanding the concept of similes.
While students were in a group with me, the rest of the class was
working on figurative language review worksheets. Also with the
higher reading groups who finished early they got to come up with a
similar metaphor on the back of their feathers (not pictured). Overall
this review lesson was a success. Students remembered much more
of the figurative language when they had a visual to go along with it.
In the future I would like to remember to save or take pictures of the
rest of the visuals that went along with the lesson. In the future I
would also come up with more seat work while I am pulling small
groups. Quite a few students finished early and I had to instruct them
to read their AR books.
