CELL REFERENCING AND WORKSHEET MANIPULATION

Standard:
E.6. Organize workbook by renaming and rearranging worksheets.
Objective:
I can:

Change the name in a sheet tab


Change the color of a sheet tab
Re-arrange worksheets in an Excel Workbook
Reference a cell in a different worksheet in the same Excel Workbook

Activity:
1. Download the spreadsheet found in your e-Chalk assignment.
2. Save on your USB drive as Thanksgiving Day.
3. Rename each worksheet the following names as is appropriate to content: Menu, Events,
Football
a. Double-Click on the appropriate sheet tab, it will turn black and highlight the current name

b. Type the name you want for the sheet.


4. Recolor the "Football" tab brown, the "Menu" tab green, and the "Events" tab red.
a. Right click on the sheet tab

b. Click on Tab Color


c. Select an appropriate color
5. In each worksheet, widen the columns so that the information in them can be easily read.
a. Hover your mouse over the line between the columns until you see the double-headed
arrow

b. You can either click on the double-headed arrow and drag until you think the column to the
left is wide enough
OR

You can double-click on the double-headed arrow and the column to the left will
automatically re-size.
6. Create a reference in the Events worksheet that references the time the football game starts
(C4) in the Football Worksheet for the Miami v/s Dallas Game.
a. Click in cell C5 on the Events worksheet
b. Type and = sign (this will replace the text already there)

c. Click on the tab for the Football worksheet and then click on the cell that lists the Miami v/s
Dallas game (C4)
*Note that the sheet name is followed by an exclamation point. This tells Excel that this is a
Sheet Name.

d. Click enter key on the key board. The time in C5 will reflect the new time.
7. Change the time in C4 in the Football worksheet to reflect 4:30 PM.
8. Put the tabs in the following order: Events, Menu, Football
a. Click on the Events Tab until you see a white rectangle under your cursor

b. While holding down the mouse button, drag the rectangle down the line until you see a
black triangle in front of the Menu tab.

When you release the mouse button, your Event tab will have moved.

9. If you have not already saved your file, save it on your USB drive as Thanksgiving Day. If you
have simply save again and submit it in e-Chalk.
10. Write the confirmation number on your assignment list.
