Undesirable Behavior Targeted:

The purpose of this Behavior Contingency Plan is to reinforce positive and correct
behavior when in line for recess. Many students, and often the class as a whole, does
not follow directions (stand still, be quiet, and remain single file in line)
when they are in line.
Desirable(expected) Behavior Targeted:
This board can act as a visual reminder of how to behave when in line. By allowing
the students to have a visual aide (the behavior contingency food chain board) they
can constantly monitor their progress.
The desired outcome/ behavior expected to occur from using the behavior
contingency food chain board is students following the understood (and listed on
the behavior contingency food chain board) rules when in line as a class.
Types of positive reinforcements reinforced when and how?
1. Immediate R+: immediately give each student the foam-cutout (for the food
chain on the behavior contingency food chain board) they earned.
2. Delayed R+: at the end of the day all students can glue their food chain piece
to the board
3. Novel Interactive Learning Activity: The food chain model was created to
further enhance the TEKS being taught and in order to teach the students
about the food chain. This behavior contingency food chain board allows
students to be hands-on and to actively create their own, class food chain
model.
4. Quickly and Easily administer all R+: A good skill to practice with
elementary aged children is good classroom management (resulting in good
behavior) in line. The immediate handing out of the foam-cutout (which goes
on the food chain board) reinforces the students following directions. It is
also important to note that the student will be taught the rules to follow
when in line, and the students will also get to practice getting in line while
following the rules. The rules will also be visually posted on the food chain
board in the classroom. At the end of the day, allow the students to glue their
earned food chain foam-cutout pieces on the food chain board.
Interactive Learning Activity:
By gaining all the food chain pieces to put on the food chain board, the class is
then able to earn shoes-off time during their morning lesson. This will also
help encourage students to work together as a class in order to get in line
quickly and quietly. The use of the food chain also reinforces the order and
operation of the food chain. The food chain is a TEKS for elementary aged
children (examples TEKS: 1.9C, 3.9B, 5.9B).
Teaching Desired Behaviors:
Teacher will demonstrate by video an example of chaotic line crowding such as
the lines on Black Friday. The teacher will then show a video of proper line
following at the DMV. She will show how the DMV will always be preferred for

timeliness and cooperation. She will then demonstrate the six steps to follow to
line up and behave properly when in line.
The Six Steps Include:
1)Come when the bell rings
2)Get in line
3)Eyes forward
4)Mouths closed
5)Hands by side
6)Follow teacher only
After the students have been taught the rules, the students will have several
chances to practice getting in line while following the rules. The students will
also be reminded weekly of the rules to follow when in line.
Teaching the Plan:
The plan will be introduced at the beginning of a school week during the first
few minutes of class. Reminders throughout the week would also help students
remember and help each other to remember. The plan will be introduced by the
teacher who will demonstrate the six steps to follow to line up and behave
properly when in line.
