Sports in Relation

to Learning:
There have been recent
studies that show that new
information can stick better if
learned while performing some
sort of physical activity or motion.
They have tested this out in
elementary and middle school
classes across the country. For
example a math class will go
outside and for every math
question answered the student
shoots a basketball. The physical
activity allows the material to sink
in better. It also creates a
correlation in your head between
what you are learning and what
you are doing. This allows for
better memorization and better
absorption.

Sport Language in
Everyday Life:

Literacy and
Language in
Sports:
-Nicholas Dennis

Sports have created its own

language. There are thousands of
sports terms and they can be used in
other situations other than talking
about last nights game. Sport terms
have even found there way into
politics. Barack Obama has been
quoted using terms like knock-out
punch and bottom of the ninth.
Terms like these are very common in
everyday conversation. Another
popular term that is used often is
Hail Mary pass. If you are
unaware of what this means it is
describing a desperate attempt in the
final moments of something. There
is a whole language that connects to
sports that only a minority of people
may be able to understand.

Sports are
International

Sports are Universal

Sports are everywhere. Any country you go to there will be sports. For many nations, like America for example, sports are a large
portion of the average persons life. There are many different sports and every country has their favorite. Statistically showing American
Football is the most watched sport in The United States. On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean soccer or football, is predominantly the most
popular sport to play and watch. Sports have become a big part of a countries culture. Practically every country has one sport in which they
excel. Sports also have the ability to bring people together. For example during the Olympics fans from all different backgrounds and
ethnicitys come together to cheer for their respective country.
The fact that Sports can bring people together make them a great thing. When you are playing a sport with another person there is no
such thing as a language barrier. You are able to fully interact with someone from a completely different background and enjoy yourself. There
is nothing stopping someone from America who speaks English to go and play soccer with someone from Mexico that can only speak Spanish.
People can also make lifelong friends while playing sports. From a personal- Donec
standpoint,
have made

from playing in the same team, especially with my high school football team. People who play sports together share a special bond because you
sweat and bleed together. What ever you have to go through they have been through the same suffering/conditioning. This grows a high deal of
respect for one-another and builds a strong bond that is hard to break.
