Mary Conwell- Lesson Plan #3

Date: November 25, 2014

Subject: Math

Grade: Kindergarten

Goals/Objectives/Standards:
Math Standard- OA K.2 Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract
within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
NET 6.b. - Students demonstrate a sound understanding
of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Select and use applications effectively and
productively
Students will be able to add and subtract within 10.
Timeline/structure of lesson: 60 minute lesson
Time
15 min.

Opening/Framing the Lesson/Introduction/Early

Assessment
I will begin the lesson by demonstrating how to add and
subtract using dominos in the front of the classroom on my
SmartBoard with a student helper. We will do three
examples of both adding and subtracting dominos. I will also
pull out real dominos and they each can try one addition and
one subtraction problem with the domino in front of them.

Monitor/Feedback
I will only move on to the activity
once I know the students
understand the concept of
adding and subtracting within 10
using the dominos.

The Lesson Structure: Activities

problems in their notebooks before turning them in.

If they finish early they may choose an educational
math app on the iPad to play with their partner
while they wait for the rest of the class to finish.

Closing/Assessment
When all students are done with the scavenger hunt we
would gather back up as an entire class in the classroom.
They would all need to have their have their own IPads now
and I would put up a quiz on the Smartboard using Kahoot.
My Kahoot quiz will show me if students understand the
concept of adding and subtracting dominos.
Homework
The students will take home a math worksheet that has ten
problems with addition and subtraction problems with
dominos. There challenge question at the end will be to
think of another object other than a domino that they could
use to make addition and subtraction problems. They need
to turn in their worksheet to me the next day.

Once I look at the results

from the Kahoot Quiz I will
know if I need to spend more
time on adding or subtracting
dominos or if we can move on
as a class.

After I receive all the

worksheets I will grade them and
see if the students understand
the concept and how much I
need to review before moving on.
