Introduction

My name is Shea Williams and I recently completed my final courses at Albion

College. I spent the majority of my time in school studying to complete my Spanish major,
math minor, and secondary education concentration. In my free time, I worked as a
lifeguard at the college pool and helped with autism awareness events to raise money for
Autism Speaks with my sorority Alpha Xi Delta. For the 2013 year, I was president of our
sorority and was fortunate to be able to represent our chapter on our campus and be a
leader not only in Greek life but in all of campus life.
My first passion in life was swimming and from there I found a passion for teaching
swim lessons. The greatest role model in my life showed me how much of an impact just
teaching swim lessons can have on a childs life. Looking back, that was the first time I
contemplated wanting to be
teacher. From there, I started
college at Albion and after my
first education class, I knew
this was the career path for
me, and I never looked back. I
found that through my college
classes, my passion for Spanish
was broadened through my
study abroad experience, my
appreciation for math grew as I
listened to successful
mathematicians speak to my seminar once a week, and my desire to teach was solidified. I
am ecstatic that I am almost at the finish line of this education marathon.
Welcome to my professional portfolio! Here you will find a compilation of my work
from my time spent working with the Albion College Fritz Shurmur Center for Teacher
Development. The large majority of the work shown comes from my student teaching
internship, and the rest is filled in from Boundary Crossing/Maymester.
**Boundary Crossing was a pre-student teaching course for all education students. I spent a

semester working in Marshall High School during the Spring of 2013 and then taught a
three-week unit in a Spanish 1 classroom.
I spent my student teaching placement at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, MI. I
was fortunate enough to have two amazing mentor teachers, Sara Johnson and Lonnie
Goodman. With their guidance, I successfully taught Spanish 1, Spanish 2 (two sections),
Geometry, and Algebra 1 for the majority of the trimester. I was able to see them through
their entire 12-week marking period which was a great experience because the class felt
more like my own, and I was able to see the end product of all their hard work during the
last few months.
From lesson planning to school improvement meetings to professional learning
communities, I was very involved at our school. I was in a great position because the school
had just switched to the trimester schedule this year, so I was able to be a part of crafting
the new common summative assessments for both the math and Spanish departments.
This along with all of the learning experiences I gained teaching in the classroom, I have
learned so much and grown as a professional. The most important thing Ive learned
through my education experience is that I will never stop learning. No matter how long I
teach, I will continue to learn from my students and my experiences.
I would like to thank both of my mentor teachers, Sara Johnson and Lonnie Goodman,
for helping me reach this point. Without their constant support and encouragement, I
would not have made it through this internship. I would also like to thank all of my
previous mentor teachers throughout my time at Albion, for they have shaped my
experience and helped me grow through the years. Thank you to the Albion College Fritz
Shurmur Center for Teacher Development and all of my professors there for getting me to
this point, for believing in us more than anyone else. Without them, I wouldnt have the
passion that I do for teaching. Thank you to my parents and family for always encouraging
me to chase my dreams. And thank you to my Lakeview High School students and all my
previous students that I have had the honor to get to know. My students have taught me so
much and helped me become a better teacher and a better person. They are the reason I
wake up and go to school in the mornings. So to everyone above and those not listed who
have been a part of this journey with me, I say thank you.
