"Breast Cancer Clinical Trials | Susan G. Komen." Breast Cancer Clinical Trials |
Susan G. Komen. N.p., n.d. Web. 20 Oct. 2014.

The clinical trial article from the Susan G Komen website describes the four
different types of treatment clinical trials and the benefits of becoming part of one. The
article also provides a list of questions patients should ask their physician if they are
interested in participating in a clinical trial. Information regarding the negative side of
clinical trials, such as the side effects, location and the cost, are also provided in the
article. The article ends with information on where a person could find a clinical trial to
join.
This article is intended for patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer
and want to be a part of something that could not only help them but also help others
who would be diagnosed with breast cancer in the future. The article provides the
patients with all the information they would need before attending a trial, during and
after.
I dont think I would use this article for my research. The article does not seem to
provide the kind of information I am looking for. This is a very informative article for

Kpeli 2

those who are interested in being part of a clinical trial but it doesnt provide statistics or
other informative details I need for my research.

"Breast Cancer." Harvard Medical School Health Topics A-z. Boston: Harvard Health
Publications, 2013. Credo Reference. Web. 20 October 2014.

This article explains in detail the different types of invasive and noninvasive
breast cancer diagnosis. The article also informs women of the symptoms they might
experience and should look out for before they are diagnosed or before they see a
physician regarding breast cancer. A step by step of what to expect on ones first
doctors appointment as well as diagrams, which demonstrates the different areas
removed from the breast debating on the treatment options, are provided in the article.
The article goes into detail regarding the different types of biopsies that can be
completed. The article explains a pathologists role in determining whether the tissues
are cancerous or not. The article ends by informing people to call a physician if they
notice the symptoms they have listed.
This article is meant to inform women and men of the options available to them if
they are diagnosed with breast cancer. The article provides information on ways to help
prevent women from getting breast cancer. After reading this article women would not
only be able to understand the doctor at a visit but will also help them come up with
question to ask the physician.
This is a great article for me to use in my research. The article is very informative
and provides me with a lot of information that I have not read in any other article. I have

Kpeli 3

received a great knowledge not just about breast cancer itself but also about symptoms,
diagnoses, biopsies, pathologist, treatment and much more.

Buescher, Julianne. "I Survived Breast Cancer." Women's Health. Ed. Christina Fisanik.
Detroit: Greenhaven Press, 2006. Contemporary Issues Companion. Rpt. from
"The Breast Defense Is a Good Offense." Bust (Spring 2002): 56-61. Opposing
Viewpoints in Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2014.

In this article Julianne Buescher not only tell her story on how she survived
breast cancer but also explains how her story connects to her mothers and
grandmothers story, since they too are breast cancer survivors. Julianne was
diagnosed with breast cancer at 28. She started getting mammograms very early on
because of her family history. Her mother and grandmother had a very aggressive
breast cancer diagnoses, had both of their breast removed and went through rounds of
chemotherapy. After knowing what her mother and grandmother went through, Julianne
decided to get a double mastectomy soon after being diagnosed. Not too long after her
recovery process she found out the cancer had spread and she too had to have chemo.
She faced a rough road and at times thought how much easier it would be to take her
own life. But through the support of her mom she survived and realized her decision on
her treatment is the reason she has survived and is still alive today.
I believe this article can help women who are going through their own rough road
in treatment. They can see that in the end it will be all worth it and they too can beat

Kpeli 4

breast cancer. Julianne explains that though the road to recovery isnt easy it is
necessary for ones survival.
I am not sure just yet how useful the article would be to my research. I did get to
see how breast cancer is genetic as well as what the treatment process is like. But that
is information that I have also received from other articles. I would like to use something
with more facts, statistics and details regarding the disease.

DAVID FADDIS. "Breast Cancer." Encyclopedia of Women's Health. Eds. Sana Loue
and Martha Sajatovic. Dordrecht: Springer Science+Business Media, 2004.
Credo Reference. Web. 24 September 2014.

This article found in the Encyclopedia of Womens Health informs readers of the
importance of early detection of breast cancer and how early detection will increase a
patients chance of survival. The article explains the various ways a woman can be
examined for breast cancer. The writer informs readers that there is no known cause for
breast cancer but there are known risk factors that could cause a women to be
diagnosed with breast cancer. Most important the article talks about new imaging
techniques being used to detect breast cancer at a smaller size then before. The source
also states, in the future early breast cancer treatment may not actually involve
surgery.
This is an informative article for readers who want to learn more about breast
cancer. The article briefly explains the risk factors, ways to detect breast cancer early

Kpeli 5

and the treatment options women have this day and age. The article also explains how
in the future there may be a better way for women to be treated for breast cancer.
This article will be beneficial because not only is it stating facts regarding breast
cancer but it is also talks about new imaging techniques being used today that werent
available to doctors before. The article also talks about what is to be expected in the
future treatments of breast cancer. This is the kind of information I need in my research.

Ellen Goode and Prema Peethambaram. "Breast Cancer." Encyclopedia of Cancer and
Society. Thousand Oaks: Sage Publications, 2008. Credo Reference. Web. 24
September 2014.

This article informs, in a more detailed manner, breast cancer before diagnoses
to post treatment. Not only does the article explain the risk factors that could develop
breast cancer but it also states what could help reduce the risks. The article goes
through the different stages of breast cancer and explains the treatment options for
them. The writers provide information on the post-operative side effects in the article.
This seems to be a very informative article found in the Encyclopedia of Cancer
and Society. The writers break down a lot of the medical terminology for the everyday
people who do not understand the language. The article provides readers with
information on a mentor program for newly diagnosed patients. It is likely that this article
is intended to provide readers with a broader knowledge of breast cancer, many ways to
prevent it, treat it and also ways to survive breast cancer.

Kpeli 6

The article will definitely be a useful source for my research. It went more into
detail on the different stages of breast cancer as well as the treatment options. This
article started off with the same information as the others I had read before it, but, after
a page or two I realized I could use this article because it provides statics and details
other articles did not have.

Hobson, Katherine. "New Treatments for Breast Cancer." Cancer. Ed. Clayton Farris
Naff. Detroit: Greenhaven Press, 2008. Contemporary Issues Companion. Rpt.
from "Beating the Odds." U.S. News & World Report (13 June 2005). Opposing
Viewpoints in Context. Web. 10 Oct. 2014.

The article cited above compares new treatments being used today on breast
cancer patients to treatments that were used in the past. The article provides statistic to
confirm the increase of survival rate as well at the decrease in risk factors. The writer
informs readers of the clinical trials available to patients as well as information on how
to become part of a clinical trial.
This article is intended for those who are diagnosed with breast cancer and want
to know what options they have for treatment. This is an article that would give patients
a little more comfort knowing that not only are the treatments available to them today
increasing their chances for survival but, also the knowledge of knowing that scientist
are working on new treatments and not giving up on them.

Kpeli 7

This is definitely an article I will use for y research. The article provides statistics
as well as a comparison on new and old treatments. The information provided in the
article is exactly what I am looking for.

Mantel, Barbara. "Breast Cancer." CQ Researcher 2 Apr. 2010: 289-312. Web. 15 Oct.
2014.
The article provides not only your basic information about breast cancer but also
the history of it. The article not only demonstrates how knowledge regarding breast
cancer has evolved but also how the treatment methods have changed for the better.
The article describes how doctors have worked to better the lives of those affected by
breast cancer and helped them live a longer life.
This article is intended for readers who are doing research on breast cancer. The
article provides statistics that would be beneficial to those doing research and hoping to
learn more on the topic.
I will benefit from this article because it explains how doctors have helped to
evolve the methods taken to treat breast cancer and explains how the risk factors were
determined.

"The Politics of Breast Cancer." Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book. New York: Da Capo,
2010. Credo Reference. Web. 07 October 2014.

Kpeli 8

Susan Love starts the article explaining the extreme awareness there is today
regarding breast cancer and how little awareness there was back before the 1950s.
The writer explains the struggles she and many other women in different organizations
experienced while trying to get the voice out to Congress regarding breast cancer. In
the past there was only one small organization that was an advocate for breast cancer,
but, once celebrities came out saying they too had breast cancer a bigger awareness of
the disease came to be. The diligence the women demonstrated has paid off and is the
reason new research has been completed, Congress passed bills to help pay medical
bills and much more. They demonstrate that you can reach your goals, even with little
money as long as you have organization.
This article is meant to inform women how much their chances for survival have
improved because of the awareness and research completed due to their diligence.
This is a good article for me to use in my research because it explains how little
knowledge regarding breast cancer there was back in the 1950s, how much more we
have now and why we have it.
