Should abortion be legal?

Im sure everyone knows what abortion is. My definition of abortion is when a woman is
pregnant and decides to terminate the pregnancy. This topic has caused controversy in our
country for years now and it still goes on today. Some people agree with woman having an
abortion if wanted. Others are against abortion they go as far as protesting on specific properties
for example on property where the abortion process actually takes place. Reason being they feel
strongly about this topic and most that oppose abortion would consider it murdering an unborn
child. In my opinion I think it should be legalized for the reason that everybody is entitled to
what they want to do to their bodies, so if a person thinks they are not ready to bring a child in
the world it should be their decision.
There has been many court cases debating about this specific topic as well. One case was
Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965 which gave women the right to take birth control in their own
privacy. Before this case who ever took birth control, gave someone or even sold it to a person
would get fined at least forty dollars or even imprisoned for sixty days or less (McBride, 2006).
This is an example of how the government tries to intrude in everything in our lives meaning,
they are always trying to have a say so in many things we as the people do to try to make
America look better. Another court case that leads back to this topic is Roe V. Wade in 1975 it
legalized abortion under the fourteenth amendment under the right of privacy provision (Staff,
2014). This case also brought tons of controversy, many people where happy with the verdict of
the case letting the carrier of the child to make her decision on keeping the child or not. Although
there were others who were against the verdict and spoke out by protesting and trying to get the
court to change their decision which never happened but people still speak out to this day
because of freedom of speech.

Abortion

Have you ever thought why would someone want to do something as cruel as not
bringing a child in to this world? I have at first it made sense to blame the mother because it is
murder in most peoples eyes and the mother does have the decision to give birth or not.
Analyzing it more no one knows why would a soon to be mother want to do that but they do
have their reasons some may have been sexually assaulted and just dont want to have a child to
remind them of that horrible experience they had. Others they just may not be ready especially
teenage pregnancy most teenagers arent ready, for most teenagers its the only choice most of
them think they have. Each year, hundreds of girls in Florida petition judges for permission to
have abortions; the nationwide number is likely in the thousands. But those statistics only
include the girls who make it to court. Poorly trained court staff, anti-abortion judges, and a
spate of increasingly restrictive laws have made it harder than ever for minors to exercise their
legal rights (Redden, 2014).
In this case its very risky some states consider making abortion illegal they may think
they are doing a good thing but it actually can be very harmful. Most teenagers or even adults
who want an abortion would do anything to get it meaning they can harm themselves in the
process of trying to get rid of their baby. Researching further about this topic I found an article
that I would consider goes very well with this subject. The title is called Three reasons women
have an abortion. In this article it explains the three main reasons why women have an abortion
which are a negative impact on the mothers life, financial instability and relationship
problems/unwillingness to be a single mother. As far as negative impact on the mothers life this
goes for mainly teenage pregnancies or women who are in college trying to become something in
life and for them a baby would interrupt their life and their goal in life in advance of pursuing
their career.

Abortion

Some people may call it selfish for people to put their career before another human being
especially their own kid but in my opinion if most people would understand the reason why most
would understand. This second point I would say is the main reason why women and young girls
have abortion and its because of they arent financially stable, peculiarly when its unexpected
which most situations they are it ends up being very difficult once they add up everything. The
cost of an average hospital birth is approximately 8,000 and parental care provided by a
physician can cost between 1,500 and 3,000 (Lowa, 2014). For nearly 50 million Americans
who do not have insurance, this would mean an out of pocket expense of 10,000 dollars (Lowa,
2014). Most people who dont have kids who are against abortion would not know how
expensive it is unless they have witnessed it through a relative but not everyone have insurance
which would make it harder to pay for all thats necessary to have a healthy baby. The final
reason why a women would get an abortion is reason being they dont want to be a single mother
which most people know its difficult being a single mother so they just arent ready for that
responsibility.
Writing this paper Ive learned a lot about abortion and I still believe in that the women
should make the decision without anybodys opinion because it is her body and also that the
government should have no input in it reason being they already run almost everything in our
lives. People that are against abortion I do understand why they would be against it being that its
murdering an unborn child but like before people are entitled to their own opinion but its still
the persons decision regardless of what people think. Furthermore like before most of the time
people who are against abortion are mainly against it because of their religion or their belief in
that its just like murdering a human being. Most people consider it a human being when its a
fetus and others believe at a certain trimester it would be considered a human being. Abortion

will always be a controversial topic in this country but overall people are going to do what is best
fit for them at that time people should just respect that.
