UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


This lesson plan is part of a unit on interdependence. (All Living Things Need Water)
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given a computer and the Living and Nonliving Things- lessons for kids video, TLW complete the
living and nonliving things handout with 100% accuracy.
Given the living and nonliving things handout, TLW list the differences between living and nonliving
things with 100% accuracy.
Given a computer, word processing software, and clip art, TLW create a table with 5 picture examples
of living things and 5 picture examples of nonliving things with 100% accuracy.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
GLE 0107.2.1 Distinguish between living and non-living things in an environment.
MATERIALS:
Materials Used
1. Computer

3. Word processing software
4. Clip Art
5. Pencils
6. Paper

Technology Integration
1. Students will use the website stated above to watch the living and nonliving things video.
2. Students will use word processing software to create a table.
3. Students will use clip art to find pictures of living and nonliving things.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of living and nonliving things.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction:
1. Begin by telling students that All living things need water. Ask the students if they can name some
things that need water to live.
2. Explain that nonliving things do not need water because they are not alive. Give some examples.
3. Ask students if they can think of some other things about living and nonliving things that are
different.
4. Tell the students that they are going to watch a video that will explain all the differences between
living and nonliving things.

Procedures:
At the computer (30 minutes)
Teacher Procedures
1. Distribute pencils and Living and Nonliving Things handout.
2. Open the internet browser to http://www.makemegenius.com/science-videos/grade_2/Living-andNonliving-Things-for-Kindergarten--Preschoolers
Student Procedures
1. Watch the Living and Nonliving Things video.
2. Complete the handout

At the computer (30 minutes)


Teacher Procedures
1. Open the word processing software.
2. Guide students through table making process.
3. Show students how to use clipart.
Students Procedures
1. Create a table with 4 rows and 2 columns.
2. Label the 1st column Living and the 2nd column Nonliving.
3. Use the remaining rows to paste pictures of living and nonliving things.
Closure:
Students can use remaining time to present their tables to the class. Teacher collects handout and tables
for grading.
