LTC Brown,
As a student about to graduate with high-level of leadership experience in the Army and a
Bachelors Degree in Applied Nutrition in Dietetics, I learned that the best way to achieve
success was to motivate the resources I had with well-defined objectives and empowerment of
the nutrition care process. I am writing to express my interest in the position at Baylor University
as a Dietetic Intern and Graduate student. I am a qualified applicant for the position and
committed to helping people eat well and live healthy lifestyles. I have also experienced working
with a client for a nutrition counseling practicum. It was an eye opening experience that I
enjoyed to utmost degree. I will be completing a field experience this summer to shadow a
Registered Dietitian. I am looking forward to gaining the knowledge and experience to help
further my career. Beginning with the end in mind, the focus is to improve overall living and
make the Army my long term career.
The Military Internship for Dietetics can help me accomplish my goal in every way. I am
currently in the Army and love the structure of it. I love the discipline, physical training, and
mental toughness it offers to soldiers. I would like to continue to be a soldier for my career;
however, I would also like to help others stay in the Army and get off the weight management
program. Being a Dietitian in the Army can help soldiers stay in the military in order to serve our
Nation. Without a clear direction of living a healthier lifestyle, more soldiers will get on the
weight management program and will continue to get discharged from the Army. I would like to
prevent that from happening.
I have a lot to offer for the program because I have prior service experience. I have been through
basic training, AIT, LDAC, CTLT, and I am currently am on the National Guard Marathon
Team. I am also juggling school and ROTC 5-7 days a week. I show a great deal of empathy
towards soldiers that are struggling in problematic areas. I help those that need help getting off
the weight management program and I am in charge of Academic Advising for cadets that are

struggling with particular classes. An overall weakness I struggle with is that, I have a hard time
saying no to others. I will do whatever anyone asks of me and I put them before myself 110% of
the time. With that, I struggle with time management. If there is a mission, I focus on
accomplishing the mission first and always. My commitment to the Military Internship for
Dietetics will be prioritized as my mission, at which, I would only want to exceed above and
beyond at.
If you have questions, or if you want to schedule an interview, please contact me at 937-6685524. I look forward to meeting you to further discuss the employment opportunities with Baylor
University.

Very Respectfully,

Carlie Rider
Applied Nutrition and Dietetics Student
Cadet Officer in Charge of Academic Advising
