60 Minute Skit

Jenna & Taylor

Taylor: Hi my name is Taylor Woodward and I am here with my co-host Jenna Gallagher, we have been
receiving many requests on informing our audience about the political system of Russia in the past and
how it is today, on our 60 minute program.
Jenna: Thank you for the Taylor, I think todays discussion will be one of the very interesting ones I
cant wait any longer so lets get started with a few facts!
Taylor: I think one of the most important things people need to be informed about is the way Russias
Political system is set up. In Russia the executive power is split between the President and Prime
Minister however, the president is the dominate figure. The legislature is represented by the Federal
Assembly of Russia.
Jenna: Yes Taylor, I agree with the importance. I know that many people tend to get confused with the
way the system works due to all of the different rumors going around about different nations, including
Russia. Yesterday in my Global course in one of my college classes a student raised his hand and asked
the way the systems power is split. Well, if youre listening now you know!
Taylor: To continue with what I was saying, the Federal Assembly of Russia has two chambers which are
the state Duma which is the lower house and the Federation Council which is the upper house. Along
with that the judicial power is vested in courts and administered by the Ministry of Justice.
Jenna: Wow that is very informative Taylor. I am taking a class about this right now and I was not even
aware of all of that great information. Can you also explain to me the way the President is elected,
because I know different political systems run differently in different nations?
Taylor: Yes, I can tell you about the president. Instead of getting into the whole long speech about the
way elections run, the most important information about the president is, the President is the head of
state and is elected by popular vote every 6 years for a maximum of 2 consecutive terms.
Jenna: Didnt the original constitution have four year presidential terms? When did that change come
about?
Taylor: Not too long ago Jenna, in the year of 2008 the Parliament aimed to a 6 year term, and they
were successful with making it happen.
Jenna: Thank you Taylor, you are really on a roll today. I need to take the classes you are taking because
you really know your facts about the Russian political system. Now to change the subject, I think you
have a few questions for me?
Taylor: Yes Jenna, I do. Can you tell me your thoughts on if you think Russia is working towards a
Democracy or not?
Jenna: Yes, I think they are definitely working towards a democracy. I think that with Putin as the
president that Russia will be there in to time! Things have been getting so much better in Russia and it is
all thanks to the political system.

Taylor: Do you agree with Putin serving as president for 3 terms? No other president in Russia has ever
done that before him. Tell me your thoughts please.
Jenna: Of course. Well as you know the U.S has a president for 3 terms as well as Russia had Putin for 3
terms. I do agree with this because if Putin was making such a great change to the country, then why
should he have not been given 3 terms? He was only helping for the better in my opinion.
Taylor: How do you think Russia was impacted since Putin being in office?
Jenna: The Russian economy was impacted the most when Putin became president. He changed the
economy from command to a free market economy. Also, he gave people rights which Stalin never did.
This makes me think that he did nothing but good for the Russian people and they should be very
thankful for him!
Taylor: I disagree with your thoughts. Now do you have any more questions for me before we say
goodbye?
Jenna: I do have a question for you, what are your thoughts on both Stalin and Putin?
Taylor: Honestly, I think Putin is just as dangerous. I feel that the government justified what Stalin did so
that they can just make anything look good.
Jenna: Interesting, well thank you for joining me and helping me break the Russian political system
down, so that we can inform our audience on facts, and questions of our own. You taught me a lot today
and I hope I did the same for you!
Taylor: No, thank you for coming onto 60 minutes. Thats all for the week of 60 minutes stay tune for
next time when we break down the controversy on ISIS. Im Taylor Woodward and this is Jenna
Gallagher, have a great night.
