The Preamble
The attacks of Sept. 11 were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged
stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and
religious/freedom. The rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever
to live our lives in freedom. 9/11 had a huge impact not only in the US, but worldwide. The
Preamble still has an enduring impact. The ideas of justice, defense, and welfare are evident in
the events after September 11.

Purpose
The Preamble to the United States Constitution is a brief introductory statement of
the fundamental purposes and guiding principles. It outlines the general goals of the framers: to
create a just government and to ensure peace, an adequate national defense and a healthy, free
nation. The purpose of the preamble is to generally define the reason behind the Constitution
establish what justifies a government, and explain how its citizens have become one.

Meaning and Phrases of the Preamble

The Preamble is one long sentence stating the truth and promises to live by. We the
people of the United States; represents all citizens of the United States and symbolizes everyone
as not only individuals, but as a team. In order to form a more perfect union; all in all, it means
to make everything in our country as perfect as possible. In order to make thing as perfect as

possible you had to change law because there were a lot of unequal things between races and
sexes. Establish justice; this means to have fairness for all. Insure domestic tranquility; it
promises that everything in our country will be peaceful, and that we will grow free of
disturbance. Provide for the common defense; its means to give protection to everyone. No
individual state was capable of defending themselves against an unexpected attack. Promote the
general welfare; meant that the government would care for those in need. As stated in the
Phrase-by-phrase explanation of the preamble, the whole point of having tranquility, justice and
defense was so every citizen could benefit from what they were providing with. And secure the
blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity; making sure freedom and fairness continue for
ourselves and all our children and their children and their children and every generation to come.
They wanted to create a place where people could embrace their rights and freedoms and could
speak their mind. Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America;
approving of and begin the Constitution of the US.

Impact
On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group alQaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States.
Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, well
known as the Twin Towers. The third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and
the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

A impact it had from the preamble was our defense. To prevent from that happening ever
again the government created new things to make airports safer. Theyve created baggage
scanning to make sure you're not carrying anything that can harm a person or simply something
2

you cant have on the plane. Shoes, jackets, and other outerwear must be also removed. Another
thing theyve created is body scanning its to make sure no one is hiding any weapon or drugs in
their clothes. They have enhanced pat-downs to double check you dont have anything that the
body scanner missed. No more non-ticketed visitors are allowed at airlines gates, so no one is
allowed to sneak in a airplane.

The words promote the general welfare themselves have impacted the U.S.. In order to
take care of the well-being of the citizens, you need to provide justice and defense. In the U.S.,
only people with a certain license can get a gun. Thats a way to make sure random people can't
go buy a gun to kill someone. Another way we have promoted the general welfare is paying
people in the medical field like nurse, doctors, and etc. Without them we wouldnt be very
healthy and that will create other unknown illnesses with dont want to have.

Justice is an everlasting effect from the preamble. For the people who had a loved one
that died during any of suicide attacks. The government gave them justice by killing Osama bin
Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, more well known as the terrorist who is responsible for the murder
of thousands of innocent citizens. The killing of Osama bin Laden get a bunch of relief to
everyone knowing the one of the biggest terrorist in the world wont be hurting us anymore.

If you ever get a chance to see the 9/11 Memorial, we all remember the preamble and its
importance to our country. The preamble had an everlasting effect on Americans day. For many
people it gives justice. To others, it may give them defense. The main points of the preamble is
that all the citizens of the United States must have fairness, must be given defense in any time of

need, and must be given help or care in a time of need. WIthout the preamble, we wouldnt have
the same rights that we have today. We owe it to our founding fathers for making the preamble.
