Childrens Literature

1. Teddy Bear Counting adheres to the Counting and Cardinality and Geometry Domain(s) of TAS
(TN Academic Standards). I will use this piece of literature as a pre-cursor to counting with
manipulatives. Ideally, I can use the book as a whole group instruction or with small groups who
need extra support with counting and shape identification.

2. So Many Circles, So Many Squares incorporates real-world objects to the Geometry domain of
TAS. I will use this in my classroom to help students make real-world connections with circles
and squares then have them complete a writing journal to draw a shape in the real-world then
write about it.

1. War is a game based on the Counting and Cardinality domain as well as the Operations and
Algebraic thinking domain of CCSS. I can use this game to appeal to different interests in my
classroom during learning centers.

2. Dunk it Dominoes is an addition game with foundational understandings rooted in the Counting

the math content we were working on. I would use this game as a learning center because its
easy to understand and manageable so students will stay on task on their own.

4. Ten-Frame War is a game used to enhance to skills in the Operations and Algebraic Thinking
domain of CCSS. I will use this game with shoulder partners or small table groups of 2-3. I will
use this game as an activity for a lesson that requires good number sense of numbers 1-10.

5. Bears in the cave game focuses on subtraction but incorporates Operations and Algebraic
Thinking as well as Counting. I will use this game with students in small groups to work with a
partner. I will use this as a game for students to complete with a partner then assign individual
reflection assignment.

6. Poppin for Numbers focuses on number identification which is good Number sense for

Hands-On Activities
1. A place value activity for 11-19 focuses on the domain of Number and Operations in Base
Ten. I will use this activity in my class as a practice sheet for students to use with rods and
units. I will structure this activity like a math task and have students work independently
first then with a small group to model then choose the number on the sheet.

2. Candy Kiss Counting is a hands-on activity that focuses in the Counting and Cardinality
domain. I will use this activity as a whole group instructional strategy. I will use this as a

3. Add to Decompose focuses on numbers 2,3,5 and 6 but emphasizes Operations and

students have time to think independently then work as a small group.

4. Exploring teen numbers is a hands-on activity based on Number and Operations in Base Ten.
Students use small manipulatives, a number chart, and their imagination to combine various
numbers, especially those consisting of ten and some ones, (teens). Ideally, I will use this
individually in my classroom during small group explicit instruction or independent practice
for struggling students.

5. Christmas Tree Play Mats promote Counting and Cardinality through a developed number
sense, but individualized enough play to where all student levels are met. I will use this
activity as an independent assignment in correlation to whole group instruction.

Technology
1. One iPad can be used to read QR codes that I develop. I will use a QR code reader on my
iPad so students can complete an interactive activity. I can use the example in the blog
to help students practice and expand knowledge on shape identification. This particular
activity aligns to CCSS Geometry domain. I will use this in my classroom during a
learning center time.

2. I have access to one iPad in my classroom. I will use the 10-frame fill app for students to

3. The Number Flash app helps students with Counting and m Cardinality understanding

4. Duck Duck Moose has an educational app called ChatterPix. This app is easily accessible
for students because they can take any image and make it talk using their thoughts,
their voice. I will use this app across the math content in my classroom as a venue for
formative assessment. Ideally, I would have students choose to say a sentence or two
about something they created and record on the app, WITH prompting and support on
an individual/small group level.

5. If access to a SmartBoard is available, I will use the SmartBoard to get my students

Bulletin Board Ideas


1. A counting bulletin board adheres to the Counting and Cardinality domain of CCSS. I can use a
counting bulletin board to show sequencing of numbers 1-20, by 1s, or to practice skip
counting, by 2s, 5s, or 10s during learning centers.

2. An interactive bulletin board is great for sorting. I can use an interactive bulletin board to have
students sort shapes by number of sides, colors, or shape following a simple two-three step
format depending on my students needs, as a warm-up to math instruction.

3. The Adding Machine is an interactive bulletin board where the teacher can structure the

4. Give Me Five Turkeys is a great way to incorporate Counting and Cardinality standards into a
daily routine. I can use this bulletin board to display student hands so students feel important to
our classroom and our learning. When practicing our skip counting by 5s daily, we can use the
hands, also Thanksgiving/Fall themed, to count by 5s.

5. A Touch Math Bulletin Board is ideal for standards practice in the Counting and Cardinality
domain of CCSS. I will use this bulletin board to display Touch Math touch points on enlarged
numbers so students have an easily accessible visual when practicing writing numbers legibly.
