Dear Dr. Bruce:

I am writing this letter to give you a guide to my e-portfolio on Weebly. In this English 360
Technical Writing class, there were many assignments accomplished throughout the semester,
but I have chosen three assignments that show the growth in my writing skills. The assignments I
have chosen were the resume, peer-review of the progress report, and the recommendation report
results section. I chose to revise the resume in more depth, specifically for my portfolio. I believe
these assignments excel the six student learning outcomes (SLOs) outlined in the syllabus. I will
explain how each project satisfies the SLOs, and how they have helped me grow as a writer. I
arranged the documents in the portfolio in a way that I believe shows my experience of writing
increasing. I will now describe the contents of my e-portfolio with my resume.
In the resume, I had to develop an organized-single page paper of my qualifications as a leader. I
had not even updated my last resume, so this was a challenge. It was difficult to really focus on
my personal leadership qualities. I have had a lot of experience as a leader, but I was not sure
how to incorporate this is a resume. This resume was revised as I received an 88/100 points. This
gave me an impression that my work may need to be revised to show my growth in this class. I
did change the font size and style. I did make this style to be clearer and not distracting the
audience. The content was changed a bit to show more leadership strength. The use of space was
also made to be clear and attractive enough to catch the attention. The personal information at the
top was also changed to be simple and clean. As I revised this work, I looked back at the SLOs
that it accomplishes.
First, the SLO that was accomplished with the resume is the excellent rhetorical focus. This is
successfully done while formally proposing an audience and purpose that is designed to
perfection formally. The resume is strictly done to obtain the position of a Leader in the

Technical Writing class. The purpose is stated in the objectives and the audience is the professor
or person hiring for the job. Second, the SLO that was accomplished within the resume is
persuasive arguments. This SLO is well-done as the resume shows the competitive importance to
get the job and to be the leader of a group. This resume had to be persuasive to obtain the job as a
leader and this was proved as I did become the leader of the iFixit group project. Third, the
resume shows organization and focus as an SLO. It demonstrates the organization is thoughtful
and clear, as my resume is organized with the bolding of words, capitalization, and bullet points
where needed to differentiate the importance of content. What better way to show organization
and focus than the resume that was constructed in the beginning of the semester? This work is so
clear and direct and the growth can be seen. Fourth, the academic language and design SLO was
accomplished in this work by the features shown and the great way to persuade the reader with
the design. The language expresses meaning as it only portrays leadership qualities for the job.
The sensitivity to gender and culture differences is shown as no bias to any group is
demonstrated, except the personal academic achievements. Fifth, the collaboration SLO was
demonstrated within the resume as the improvement was made with a revised resume, this shows
skill growth in writing. The revised resume was completed with the rubric and critique from Dr.
Bruce, as the suggested contents to be corrected were shown in comparison to the original
resume.
The second assignment chosen is the peer-review for an iFixit group. This review was the
progress report rubric that was to be completed by a group for the iFixit project. The review
satisfies three components of the SLO #1. The rhetorical focus is mastered in all assignments, but
the peer-review shows the informal writing. It also embraces the variety of audiences; which are
other peers of the class. The variety of purposes is established with this work as the purpose is to
help the group with comments and a rubric to grow in their writing skills. The collaboration SLO
is satisfied as the critique of written works is clearly shown by the completion of a peer-review.
It improves the writing skills of a groups progress report. For example, the groups progress
report was too long so this grade was proficient as the completed tasks were really great, but
there was too much unnecessary information.
The third assignment I chose was the recommendation report results section. In this section of
the recommendation report, it does satisfy all SLOs. The use of this section is to show one very
important SLO for my e-portfolio. The ethical research SLO which was greatly accomplished in
this work. I learned how to efficiently cite sources, which I had trouble doing in the past. I cited
sources with APA style because it was the chosen style of writing. I accomplished this without
mistakenly plagiarizing and I was also able to communicate the facts I obtained from sources.
For this reason I believe my results section satisfies SLO number two. This research helped me
understand the APA style used that was surprisingly efficient and I even grew to love this style.
Looking forward, I believe I will be prepared to write a variety of different styles. Writing
research papers and resumes for my career in health science will be very much appreciated when
I reach that time of my life. I know as English being my second language, writing papers will

always be a challenge, but I also know I can do my best and achieve what I want, as well as help
others improve their work. Thank you for reviewing my letter, and I hope this guides you
through my e-portfolio.

Sincerely,
Cinthia Rios
