Professional Semester Two Summative Report

1. Planning and Preparation

As part of the PS II Program, Chelsea submitted long range plans which outlined the subjects
and topics that would be covered during her Practicum. The Unit plans are tremendously
detailed and are guided by the program of studies. Chelseas daily lesson plans are well thought
out and take into account students learning needs as well as students interests. Even though
Chelsea has an outline for the day, she is flexible with her plans so that modification can be
made if necessary.

2. Instruction:
Chelsea has developed a classroom environment which is inviting and where learning takes
place. Her lessons are structured with an introduction (activities and tasks are clearly outlined at
the beginning of each class), development (difficult assignment will be chunked out in order to
assure students success) and a closure. Chelsea always makes sure that the students understand
what to do before starting their assignments. Lessons vary from whole class instruction to small
group activities. Chelsea incorporates technology into her lessons using PowerPoint and the
SMART board whenever possible. Also, Chelsea is aware of differences amongst her students
and accommodates those needs in various ways. Some students are given extra time for
assignments, some students are provided with challenges within their assignments and Chelsea
always provides one on one support for those students who require it.

3. Classroom Leadership and Management

Chelseas strength in terms of classroom leadership and management is her ability to develop a
very good rapport with the students. Her manner is kind, yet firm. She clearly outlines her
expectations and treats all students with respect. Thus, students feel very comfortable in
expressing themselves as they feel that they are being heard.

4. Assessment
Chelseas methods of evaluation are clear and purposeful. Assessment is both formative and
summative and done on a daily basis. Chelsea uses a variety of tools to assess the students
including observations, checklists, rubrics, exit passes, student worksheets, student projects,
conferences and checking daily work. Also, Chelsea is very good about providing students with
daily feedback in order to give the students the best chance to succeed.

5. Professional Attributes and Responsibilities

Everyday, Chelsea presents herself in a professional manner. She possesses a confident and
relaxed demeanor in the school as well as in the classroom. She has not only gained the respect

and trust of her Grade 4 students but she has also established great relationships outside of the
classroom (by coaching the Grade 5 basketball team and by teaming up with PS III studentteachers within the school in creating a Spanish Club). Chelsea is self-motivated and
implements suggestions to improve her teaching. Also, she takes to time to self-reflect and
assess her teaching practices and techniques in order to develop them further. Without a doubt
student success has been her number one priority during these last six weeks which speaks
volumes about her professionalism as well as her character.

Summary:
Areas for further growth:
Chelsea has greatly improved her oral French communications skills during her practicum. She
is constantly checking before and after every lesson for feedback in order to tweak any language
issues that may have occurred during her teaching. Her drive to improve is extraordinary and is
to be commanded. Ce n'est pas la perfection qui compte ncessairement mais plutt le
perfectionnement.

Overall comments (Strongest aspects of students performance):

Chelsea has been a valued member of the classroom throughout her PS II. Her commitment to
students, teaching and learning is welcome. Chelsea has shown great strengths in building strong
relationships with all of her students as well as planning, developing and carrying out meaningful
and interesting classroom activities. Her inner drive to do well is evident and student success is
her number one priority. It has been my pleasure to have Chelsea do her PS II in my classroom.
She has a bright educational future ahead of her.
