Beck, Aaron T, Arthur Freeman, and Denise D. Davis. Cognitive Therapy of Personality
Disorders. New York: Guilford Press, 2004. Print. The book Cognitive Therapy
of Personality Disorders in whole is not all relevant to my subject of research
however one chapter is focused on Narcissistic Personality Disorder and it gives
great information on therapy for the disorder. Accuracy in regards to treatment
seemed correct to me as they treatment could be effective. This book was written
in 2004 and the treatment sounds like similar methods which would be used
today. Authority in this book sounds questionable as information on who the
authors are and what their background is. The purpose of this book was to inform
and provide steps on how treatment can be provided to people with different
personality disorders. The audience for this book is for a general audience or
public. I would rate this book a 3, I may use a few minor details from it however
authority is questionable and only a small portion of the book is aimed at
Narcissistic Personality Disorder. In whole this book is about several different
personality disorders and therapeutic treatment to help patients overcome them.
Each chapter focuses on a single disorder and its treatment. I dont believe I will

be using much if any of this source in my research.

Dobbert, Duane L. Understanding Personality Disorders: An Introduction. Westport,
Conn: Praeger Publishers, 2007. Print. Understanding Personality Disorders: An
Introduction is very relevant to my subject. The author talks about all
of the signs to look for in a person with Narcissistic Personality Disorder and
gives great examples. Accuracy is great too and goes along with all of the
examples provided which provides credibility. The book was published in 2007
which makes the book current compared to the majority of information found on
this disorder. Authority for this book is questionable, as it does not provide
information over the author and what their credentials are. The purpose of this
book is to inform, they inform about symptoms situations a person may be in
when around a person with Narcissistic personality disorder. I didnt however feel
this book is for a general audience, as some of the terminology used seemed to be
more for college educated individuals or professionals. Overall I would rate this
book a 4, everything seems to be great however authority is questionable and
reading it was a bit difficult due to repetitive examples and terminology was a bit
hard to understand. This book is Narcissistic Personality disorder and
symptoms/situations a person with the disorder could be in and how they compare
to people without the disorder. The book is informative by providing symptoms of
the disorder as some of my other sources have as well and I would very likely use
it in my research.
Goodman, Cynthia Lechan., and Barbara Leff. The Everything Guide to Narcissistic

Coria 3
Personality Disorder: Professional, Reassuring Advice for Coping with the
Disorder: At Work, at Home, and in Your Family. Avon: Adams Media, 2011.
Print. The Everything Guide to Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a book
providing information on how to spot a narcissist and the symptoms of NPD. The
book also provides examples to family and friends of how to deal with the
possible effects on their relationships with a person who has NPD. This book is
perfect for my research and will definitely be using it as a source.
Hopwood, CJ, MB Donnellan, RA Ackerman, KM Thomas, LC Morey, and AE Skodol.
"The Validity of the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4 Narcissistic
Personality Disorder Scale for Assessing Pathological Grandiosity." Journal of
Personality Assessment. 95.3 (2013): 274-83. Print. The article The Validity
Of the Personality Diagnostic.. was very relevant to my subject of research and
held important information on future findings for Narcissistic Personality
Disorder. The accuracy of the information provided was great as it gave as many
facts in numbers as possible. The authority demonstrated is a credible authority as
the study done was done by professionals or experts in the subject. The purpose of
this article was to inform or the study done by experts on the disorder. The
audience for the study seems to be aimed more towards educators or other experts
on the subject per the terminology used and information provided. Overall I
would give this article a rating of a 5 as it fit all categories well for my research.
The article I just evaluated was an article where a study was done in order to
come up with a method to best evaluate narcissism in patients. They compared
evaluations between measuring narcissism in comparison to other personality

disorders and as its one disorder but in different levels. I will use this source in
my research as it gives an idea on how narcissism is diagnosed.
Hotchkiss, Sandy. Why Is It Always about You?: The Seven Deadly Sins of Narcissism.
New York: Free, 2003. Print. This source is an informative book giving
coping strategies to family members and friends who have a loved one who
have NPD. The article gives more examples of situations as opposed to facts and
set rules or processes on coping. This is not a likely source I would use as I would
like to have more accurate or credible sources within my research.
Jamison, Tedra E. "The Homicidal Narcissist." ProQuest. N.p., 2006. Web. 28 Sept.
2014. The Homicidal Narcissist is a book that explains how NPD at a certain
degree can lead to homicidal behavior. Tables and charts are provided showing
different correlations between violent crimes like homicide. This is great help
for a portion of my research. I would likely use it for the effects of NPD of my
research.
"Narcissistic Personality Disorder." Mayo Clinic. N.p., 4 Nov. 2011. Web. 28 Sept. 2014.
The Mayo Clinic web page gives information on symptoms, treatment and
possible causes to Narcissistic Personality Disorder. This page goes more in
depth in information compared to another source similar to this page. I would
likely use this page for my research.
Psych Central. (2014). Narcissistic Personality Disorder Symptoms. Psych Central.
Retrieved on September 29, 2014, from
http://psychcentral.com/disorders/narcissisticpersonality-disorder-symptoms/.
The Psych Central page gives general facts on symptoms, treatment and

Prospective causes of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The page is very brief on
information given compared to all of my other sources. I may or may not use the
information on this page as it is lots off common knowledge information or
information found in my other sources.
Twenge, Jean M., and Joshua D. Miller. "The Narcissism Epidemic." Proquest. N.p.,
2014. Web. 28 Sept. 2014. The Narcissism Epidemic is a book critiquing
todays day and age and how todays society basically promotes NPD. The
show concern in our youth and how they are being raised. Because of the bias
in this book, I am not likely to use this book as a source for my research.
Westen, Drew. Self and Society: Narcissism, Collectivism, and the Development of
Morals. Cambridge [Cambridgeshire: Cambridge University Press, 1985. Print.
The book Self and Society did not seem completely relevant to my subject of
research although it did give insight on how our personalities form. The book was
published through a university and had sources form professors at the university
so I find the information given accurate. This source is not as current as the
majority of my other ones, however I still feel the information give is accurate.
The book again does not give details on the authors background however
authority is demonstrated through the university and information given by
professors. The purpose of this book was to inform the reader on how
personalities are formed and cognitive theories of personalities. Overall I
would rate this article a 2, it is very informative however it does not pertain
directly to my topic of research. The book evaluated above is an informative
source giving information on how personalities are formed and goes over the

cognitive personality theories in psychology. Within the source information on

how narcissism is formed as well. This source is very different compared to other
sources and I could use it in describing how narcissism is formed.
