1. CK-BB is predominantly found in the central nervous system but is also present in other tissues like the gastrointestinal system, uterus, and blood vessels.
2. Elevated levels of CK-BB can be caused by conditions that affect the brain like cerebrovascular accidents, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and meningitis.
3. CK-BB may also be elevated in cancers like prostate, gastrointestinal, brain, ovarian, lung, and breast cancers making it a potential marker for adenocarcinomas.

CK-BB is predominantly found in the CNS, but is also in the gastrointestinal system, uterus, and vascular wall, and has been suggested to be a marker of adenocarcinomas. [151] The half-life of CK-BB is 1-5 hours. In CSF samples, a correlation between outcome (GOS) and lesion size has been found with respect to CK-BB levels.[164] However, no correlation was found when these measures were compared with serum levels of CK or CK-BB.[138,165] The lack of diagnostic accuracy in serum samples is thought to be due to either low transfer rates of CK-BB from the CSF to the serum, or its rapid elimination from the serum.
