ECE Art/Art Integration Lesson Plan Template

LTC 4240: Art for Children
Lesson Title & Big Idea: Stamp Art
The Big Ideas of this lesson are creation, global awareness, and marketing. The students will be researching any United
State of their choice. They will then have to create a stamp representing the state and marketing its state tree, flower,
qualities, etc.

Grade Level /Month:

Third grade, in the late fall.

Lesson Overview/Summary:

Class Periods Required: This will

take two days. I will first have my
students pick a state and do their
research on that state in the
library and computer lab. This
will take two hours the first day. I
will then the second day allow
my students to create their
stamp with the materials in the
classroom. This will take thirty to
forty-five minutes.

Stamp Art: I would use this integration art project in third grade. Integrating social studies and art. The students would
pick a state that interests them. Find information about the state such as the state bird, state tree, or state flower. The
students would then draw and create their own state stamp. The students will use media such as pencils, paper, crayons,
markers, scissors, glue, and colored pencils. The students could use different values and placements to make their stamp
stand out. A big idea for this could be creation, marketing, and global awareness. I found this on Pinterest.

Key Concept (s):

Recognizing the similarities and differences in states. Making connections
with the world. Exploring the world. Becoming more aware of the world and
the surroundings around them.

Essential Questions (Found on the national visual arts standards chart):

How do artists work? How do artists and designers determine whether a
particular
How do artist and designers care for and maintain materials, tools, and
equipment? Why is it important for safety and health to understand and
follow correct procedures in handling materials, tools, and equipment?
What responsibilities come with the freedom to create?
Individually or collaboratively construct representations, diagrams, or maps
or places that are part of everyday life.

Lesson Plan Template 3

Procedure
1. First have al students pick a state that interest them and they want to
learn more about.
2. Review the vocabulary words global awareness and marketing. The
students have seen and discussed these words before. Explain to
them that they will be making a state stamp with the information
they find. They will need to market their state and what they learned
about that state. This will also increase their global awareness as
students.
3. Then allow my students to go to the library and computer lab to look
at state qualities. Such as the state bird, state flower, state tree, etc.
4. Next, go back into the classroom and allow students to get out the
materials needed to create a stamp. * Paper, colored pencils,
markers, crayons, etc.

Procedure Continued:
5. Allow the students to create and represent the state they have
chosen while creating their own stamp.
6. When all the students are done allow them to share their new
knowledge and how they marketed their state with a stamp.
7. Then hang up the stamps around the room. Showcasing their
knowledge.

What prior knowledge will this lesson require/draw upon?

Prior knowledge of using computers and printers. Especially focusing on the use of Google.
Knowledge of how to color and use materials such as; colored pencils, markers, and crayons.
What activities will you use to engage students in imagining, exploring, and/or experimenting in this lesson?
Students will be able to imagine how they want their stamp to look. They will be able to explore the state they have chosen. Exploring new facts and
incorporating them into their stamps. The students will also be able to experiment how they want to layout their stamp. Where they will place the
information they had found. How they want to market their state.

How will this lesson encourage students to solve problems in divergent ways?
This lesson allows students to think in divergent ways by allowing them to decide how they want to market their state on their stamp.
Also what state qualities they want to include in their stamp. Lastly, the students get to think in divergent ways on how they want to advertise the state they
have chosen.

What opportunities/activities will students be given to revise/reflect and improve their understandings and their work?
I will allow my students to reflect upon their work by sharing it out with all students. As a follow up lesson I would allow them to improve and reflect upon
their knowledge and stamp by also creating a brochure for their state. This would expand on their previous knowledge and allow them to not only
incorporate their stamp in the brochure but also add more.

Lesson Plan Template 4

What opportunities/activities will you provide for students to share their learning/understanding/work in this lesson?
My students will be given the chance to present what they learned about the state they have chosen. They will also be able to showcase their stamp and
explain how they decided to market their state. Lastly, I will showcase their stamps throughout the classroom.

How will you adapt the various aspects of this lesson to differently-abled students?
When appropriate for the students the students will have the opportunity to use other materials and will be given necessary assistance or extra time.
