Method

Materials/Resources

11:30-11:32

Students get seated in their desks for art.

11:32-11:40

I will instruct using the SMARTboard lesson on shapes in art. I will describe the difference between
geometric and organic shapes. Students can practice making a geometric shape and then an organic
shape using their white boards.
Then I will show students how artwork can be broken down into shapes. I will show students by
breaking down a piece of artwork using the SMARTboard markers.
Using popsicle sticks with students names, I will call up 3-5 students to practice outlining shapes they
see in the art work.
Then, I will show students stained glass and how people make pictures using only shape cut outs.
This will move into our activity where I will show them an exemplar I made of a good picture made of
shapes and a bad example.

11:40-11:55

Then I will have the front student in each row to hand out baggies full of shapes to students. The second
student in each row will hand out pieces of construction paper to students.
They will be asked to get out their glue sticks and make pictures using just the shapes they were given.

11:55-12:00pm
Evaluation:

I will ask students to clean up by putting any extra shapes into their baggies and putting their pictures in
their art folders. If there is any extra time, students can work on any art work they need to finish up or
they can add to the collages at the back of the room.
Their art will be graded on a rubric based on the cheeseburger model.
