CHRISTMAS MATH
BACKGROUND
For
Christmas
this
year,
Mr.
and
Mrs.
Rhoades
are
making
homemade
gift
baskets
for
their
friends
and
family.
Each
gift
basket
will
contain
1
loaf
of
banana
walnut
bread,
a
jar
of
tasty
pimiento
cheese
spread,
a
box
of
spicy
crackers,
and
a
serving
of
Mr.
Rhoades
famous
candied
bacon.
Altogether,
they
have
to
make
a
total
of
16
gift
baskets.
YOUR
ASSIGNMENT
Do
the
math
for
Mr.
Rhoades!
Using
your
proportions
skills
and
the
recipes
provided,
determine
how
much
of
each
ingredient
will
be
needed
for
the
gift
baskets
and
how
much
all
of
the
combined
ingredients
will
cost.
Your
Grade
will
consist
of
5
parts,
DUE
THURSDAY:
This
is
a
major
assignment.
In
addition,
there
will
be
a
short
quiz
at
the
end
of
the
project
to
independently
assess
what
you
learned
in
this
project.
ADDITIONAL
NOTES
To
complete
the
project,
you
will
need
some
outside
information.
(Ex:
How
many
ounces
are
in
a
cup?)
A
guide
sheet
has
been
provided.
Responsible
use
of
computers
and
electronic
devices
is
permitted.
When
it
comes
to
grocery
shopping,
buying
in
bulk
(in
large
quantities)
is
almost
always
a
better
bargain.
You
are
buying
MORE,
so
the
price
is
definitely
going
to
be
more
expensive--but
the
larger
the
size,
the
less
you
pay
per
ounce.
We
want
to
be
cost-efficient
with
all
purchases,
meaning
we
want
to
buy
as
cheaply
as
possible
without
wasting
anything.
For
each
ingredient,
we
want
as
little
left
over
as
possible.
Example:
If
we
need
60
ounces
of
mayo
and
only
have
a
48-ounce
jar
and
a
16-ounce
jar
to
choose
from,
the
best
option
is
to
buy
one
48-ounce
jar
and
one
16-ounce
jar.
This
option
leaves
us
with
the
least
amount
of
leftover
mayo
and
also
takes
advantage
of
the
48-ounce
jar
cost-per-ounce
savings.
