Confidence in microseismic event location via precision velocity fields and signal

quality enhancement
Auteur : FULLER Brian Nelson, Sigma 3
Abstract ;

A new approach to microseismic data analysis includes careful attention to the entire
project from presurvey planning through, data acquisition, data processing, and final
interpretation of results by our well completion experts. This talk will focus on the
details that differentiate this approach from previously used approached and why this
approach provides the high level of technology that others do not. For example we
will discuss the reasons that this approach deploys 2 to 3 times as many geophones
in observation wells than other service providers and why we always use anisotropic
velocity fields to locate microseismic events. The talk will also cover the importance
of interpreting microseismic results for the purpose of optimizing well completions to
maximize production from reservoirs. Additionally, we will discuss the geophysical
opportunities available for multiple uses of the geophones and recording systems
deployed. For example, during the time that geophones are not being used to monitor
microseismic events related to fracture treatments the geophones can be deployed to
record zero-offset and offset VSP data to provide velocity profiles and, most
importantly, direct measurements of velocity anisotropy and other reservoir properties
that can be extracted from the high-frequency reflection images that can be produced
with this patented 2D and 3D VSP data processing technology.
