- Summary Objective: To continue my position at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Library where I can
utilize my skills to create a productive and collaborative work environment for library staff; take the
lead in providing innovative and top-notch information literacy programs; and provide quality
customer service to meet the needs of our user community.
Qualifications: Master librarian with over 25 years experience working in a variety of positions for
both academic and corporate libraries including the past 15 years in community college libraries:
Fast Learner. Adapt easily and quickly to new responsibilities and work environments.
Forward thinking. Keep abreast of latest library resources, services, and technology to
help plan for future needs of library users including the Millennial Generation.
Proactive. Initiate ongoing communication with faculty (email d-lists, phone calls, faceto-face meetings) on how to integrate information literacy into the curriculum. Actively
promote the librarys resources and services to faculty, staff, and students through
workshops, face-to-face meetings, email d-lists, Facebook, Twitter, Reynolds Library blog,
flyers, and SOAR)
Public service-oriented. Strong dedication and enthusiasm for serving the public and
promoting information literacy. Ability to work with diverse constituencies and assess the
needs of a diverse user community.
Strong mentoring and teaching skills. Innate ability and passion for: mentoring new
librarians and MLS graduate students, training library staff and student workers, and

Plan, develop, coordinate, and schedule library instruction for students, faculty,
and staff; Teach approximately 140-160 instruction sessions per fiscal year.
Collaborated with other librarians to develop standardized library instruction
packages (50, 75, & 100 minute packages) based on ACRL standards. Seven online
modules were created which incorporate the various skills covered in the three
instruction packages. A 20 question assessment tool was developed based on the
skills covered in the 50 minute package. The assessment is available in MS Word
and a .zip file can also be imported into the Blackboard Grade Center. Online
modules and packages will be updated as needed.
Develop and teach a variety of instruction sessions including: course-integrated
instruction tailored to specific research assignments; open session workshops for
students (e.g., Research the Smart Way, Cite it Right, EasyBib, Is this Web Site
Credible?); and PDO workshops for faculty and staff (e.g., Beyond the Textbook:
Integrating Library Resources into Blackboard).
Helped develop, test, and implement mobile scavenger hunt activity that
incorporates the use of iPads, Padlet.com and QR codes. During this engaging
activity, students roam the physical library in teams while learning about the
resources and services offered.
Collaborate with other librarians and English faculty on Information Literacy
Project for ENG-112 classes (part of FISPE/QEP assessment plans for
incorporating core competencies into the curriculum). Created and update seven
research modules using LibGuides Research at Reynolds Libraries
(http://libguides.reynolds.edu/research), developed corresponding pre/post test
on Blackboard, developed self-assessment questions on Blackboard for each
module; developed feedback questions for each module; created Camtasia clip on
how to navigate through modules. Pilot tested in Fall 2011 and integrated in
several ENG-112 classes starting in Spring 2012.
Created and update research modules (http://libguides.reynolds.edu/ite115) and
corresponding assessment questions for ITE-115 classes and collaborate with
ITE-115 faculty to integrate modules into their classes.
Created and update the online SDV-100 Library Tutorial
(http://libguides.reynolds.edu/sdv100new) and corresponding quiz on
Blackboard.

Collaborated with other VCCS Librarians to revamp the VCCS Connect for Success
tutorial in 2009 using the SoftChalk application. Continue to work with VCCS
librarians on updating modules and assessment questions as well as investigating
applications for administering assessment questions and delivering test scores.
Train Parham Road Campus librarians on using various library databases and
other electronic tools (e.g., LibGuides, EasyBib, WordPress, PBWorks), My Reynolds,
Blackboard, Equitrac, and various other library resources. Provide intensive
training to new librarians.
Direct and provide guidance to new, part-time, and evening librarians at Parham
Road Campus on performing various tasks.
Collection development including weeding of materials; Title analysis and search
interface analysis of potential and existing database subscriptions; Requested trial
accounts as well as product and pricing information for database services and
software from various vendors responsibility was transferred to Digital Services
Librarian.
Direct paraprofessional staff on weeding books from the collection as well as new
books to purchase.
Consult and collaborate with library staff on various day-to-day tasks.
Update library web pages. Started off in 2006 using Microsoft FrontPage then
switched to Dreamweaver in 2008.
Designed and generated the monthly New Titles and Recommended Readings web
pages with direct links to catalog records during 2007-2008 using Microsoft
FrontPage. Responsibility was transferred to Digital Services Librarian in 2008.
Assisted in several redesigns of the librarys web site
(http://library.reynolds.edu).
Created library blog in 2006 using WordPress as host site
(http://jsrcclibrary.wordpress.com); Co-administrator for library blog. Wrote
policies and procedures for administering the blog; Train library staff on using the
library blog; Write blog posts.
Created a wiki for library staff to post research assignments and other information
using PBWorks (http://jsrcclibrary.pbworks.com).
Created a Delicious social bookmarking account for librarians to add web site
links which are integrated into online subject and course guides.
Collaborated on the development and updating of online forms for library
instruction request and assignment alert.
Assist in editing and writing various announcements, procedures & policies,
proposals, and SACS documentation.
Coordinated efforts to update library assistance transactions statistics log to
better assess library staffing needs. Reviewed literature on various methods for
gathering and analyzing transactions; Gathered feedback from library staff;
Revised transaction categories and presented draft to LMT; Finalized new log
categories using feedback from LMT; New log was implemented in July 2009.
Switched from tallying/recording statistics on paper to entering statistics online
when library purchased a subscription to LibAnalytics in 2011.

Assist in redesign of library instruction surveys for both scheduled instruction and
open session workshops

Assist in the investigation and development of library surveys (e.g., user
satisfaction surveys; and online module feedback survey) to help in the ongoing
assessment of the community colleges research and information needs.
As Chair of the Library Marketing Committee in 2007, led members in reviewing
other academic library user satisfaction surveys and drafting two user satisfaction
surveys one for students, and one for faculty & staff. OIE administered the two
surveys via Web Surveyor during the Spring 2008 semester.
As Chair of the Information Literacy Committee (formerly Library Curriculum
Committee), lead members in discussing new workshops to offer and new ways to
deliver library instruction. Currently working on revamping instruction package
and skill set selections for scheduled sessions as well as revamping open session
offerings.
Assisted in the retrieving and synthesis of database usage statistics until
responsibility was transferred to the Digital Services Librarian.
Provided input on policies and procedures for using the Group Study rooms and
Library Instruction Lab when the library moved to the Massey Library Technology
Center in 2008.
Supervised student assistants in previous semesters.
Serve on several campus committees and subcommittees.
Participate in student orientation events including SOAR and Greeters table.

Created instructional video clips using Qarbon Viewlet Builder that demonstrate
how to search the library catalog, various databases and other applications.
Developed, administered, and evaluated surveys to help in ongoing assessment of
the community colleges library instruction needs.

for a non-credit online course in 2011, CDL-001: Orientation to Learning Online, for students
considering taking an online course as well as students who may have not done well in an
online course they have taken in the past.
As part of my Faculty Training subcommittee work on the QEP Team, I created a Learning
Objects module including assessment questions in 2011 as well as co-created an Information
Literacy module including assessment questions and a Camtasia video clip in 2010 for faculty
who teach online.
