A. Professional Goals
Goal #1: to develop a firm understanding of the materials that the students will be
covering
Rationale: In my Ed. 2500 placement, when I was asked questions I sometimes
had difficulties relaying my knowledge to the students in a meaningful
way so that they could understand. I want to ensure that I will be able to
answers students questions appropriately, and according to their individual
learning levels.
Goal #2: to incorporate triangulation in my assessment practices.
Rationale: by incorporating triangulation into my assessment practices, I am
more likely to ensure that my assessments are both valid and reliable.
Triangulation also helps to ensure that students understand the material
being taught.
Goal #3: to incorporate different ways of addressing the class and engaging the
students.
Rationale: I lectured a lot during my PS1 time and I found that during different
times the students would grow tired of listening to my voice. Their
engagement would drop and the class room behavior would grow worse.
B. Strategies (How I will go about achieving my goals?)
Strategies for addressing Goal #1: Pre-view lessons making sure I understand
and can explain the terms used. Make sure I can do the work needed to
show the answer in a clear way. Do not assume that my students have the
basic knowledge covered. I need to assess the different learning levels,
with the help of my TA, so that I can understand what issues I may face
with the students comprehension.
Strategies for addressing Goal #2: Prior to practicum I will have completed a 3
mini lesson plan with embedded assessments; this will provide me with a
starting point from which I can choose assessment methods which I will
work with during practicum. Each lesson I create will include one method
for assessment which will alternate every lesson. I will ask my TA for
feedback on my assessment methods.

PS2 PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN/GOALS

Strategies for addressing Goal #3: Prior to practicum, research different

teaching techniques to utilize during my time, review these techniques and
see which ones appeal to me, practice building these into my lesson.
C. Indicators of Progress Towards Goals (How will I know when and if I have
achieved my goals?)
Indicators of Progress for Goal #1: I understand the material being covered
showing my work in a simple and coherent manner, with proper
explanations addressing the different needs of the students;
TA and UC
feedback.
Indicators of Progress for Goal #2: Actually incorporate triangulation into my
assessments strategies; self-monitoring; TA and UC feedback
Indicators of Progress for Goal #3: Actually using different methods of
instruction and keeping the students engaged; self-monitoring; TA
and UC
feedback
D. Timeline for Completion both of these goals will be ongoing as the material will
change and the types of assessments I use are dependent on the lesson and the
students I am instructing.
