CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

Before Class Routine


a. Prepare for Class- All students are expected to complete homework assignments
before they arrive to class.
b. Arrival- Students will find their seats, take out pen or pencil and paper. Begin
working on assessment posted on the board.
i. Assigned Seats- Students will be assigned seats the first week of class.
Students will be asked to switch seats at random so they will have the
opportunity to meet and work with everyone in class.
Beginning of Class Routine
a. Roll call- Take attendance while students are working on assessment, recording
absences and tardies.
i. Absences- Record absence and take appropriate actions aligned with
district/school policy to address multiple absences.
ii. Tardies- Record tardies and take appropriate actions aligned with
district/school policy to address multiple tardies and try to find a solution.
b. Distribute Materials- Pass out materials while students are working on
assessment.
c. Assessment- Students will be required to complete the beginning of class
assessment. Assessments will consist of two to three questions to test prior
knowledge of students.
d. Class Discussion- Students are expected to participate in the class discussion,
answering the assessment questions.
Classwork Routine
a. Place Name on Paper- Names are to be written at the top left corner of every
paper.
b. Rules for Pens vs Pencils- Blue and black pens are acceptable if student writes
neat and accurately. Pencils are acceptable.
c. Write on Back of Paper- If writing in pencil, pages can be double sided. If
writing in pen, pages can be double sided if ink does not bleed through paper.
d. Must Write Legibly- All hand written assignments must be written legibly. If
hand writing cannot be read, assignments might not be graded accurately.
e. Incomplete Work- Partial credit will be given for effort and partially correct
answers. All students are encouraged to attempt to answer all questions to receive
a minimum of partial credit.
Instructional Activity Routine
a. Student Attention- All students are expected to pay attention during class. See
instructional routines for corrective measures.
b. Student Volunteers- Students will be asked to volunteer for class demonstrations,
answer questions and to participate in class discussions. If students do not
volunteer, individual students will be called on at random.

c. Student Participation- All students will be expected to participate in all classwork


and activities. Students will be graded based on willingness to participate and
contribution.
d. Additional Activities- Additional activities will be provided upon the completion
of assigned coursework. Activities will consist of instructional information
related to the assigned coursework. Activities will be available to all students.
e. Student Movement- Students will have the opportunity to move around the
classroom throughout the class period. Students have the opportunity to move
during activities and group work, and they will be asked to stand and stretch
during lengthy instructions.
f. Be Prepared- The teacher will be well prepared to teach every lesson and have
appropriate materials ready. Students will need to complete all assigned work and
the beginning of class assessment to prepare for each lesson.
Group Activity Routine
a. Expected Group Behavior- Group members are expected to show respect to each
other and contribute equally.
b. Expected Behavior Between Groups- Groups are expected to be curtesy and
respectful to other groups.
c. Sharing Resources- Sharing resources within groups is encouraged to benefit the
group as a whole. Sharing between groups is allowed as long as the information
received is used without committing plagiarism.
d. Individual Responsibilities- Groups will decide the responsibilities in which each
member is responsible. Responsibilities must be distributed evenly.
e. Choosing a Group Leader- The group leader will be chosen by the group and they
will be in charge of making sure all responsibilities are distributed evenly. They
will keep their group on task, check progress, motivate group members, and see
that all responsibilities are completed by the assigned group member.
Laboratory
a. Safety- Students must wear long pants, close toed shoes and non-loose fitted
clothing in order to participate in labs. Students will not be allowed to wear loose
fitted clothes, shorts/skirts, large jewelry, or sandals.
b. Procedures- Students must follow laboratory procedures in order to participate in
labs.
c. Clean Up- Students will be required to clean up their lab area before dismissal or
ten points will be deducted from their lab grade.
d. Special Labs- Some labs will include livestock and parents/guardians will be
required to sign a waiver in order for students to participate. Students will receive
the waiver one week in advance.
End of Class Routine
a. Class Discussion- Students will be expected to participate in a brief end of class
discussion, recapping important information learned.

b. End of Class Assignment- Students are asked to write down one topic they would
like to learn more about, what they found most interesting, or one thing they did
not already know.
c. Clean up Work Area- All students will clean up their work space before dismissal.
d. Push Chairs Under Desk- All students will push their chairs under their desk
before dismissal.
e. Dismissed When Bell Rings- When all students have cleaned up their work area
and pushed their chairs under their desk, they will be dismissed when the bell
rings.
Interruption Routine
a. Talking with Peers- Students are encouraged to engage in peer conversations
during class discussions, group work, demonstrations, and class activities.
Students are asked to remain silent during teacher instruction and to raise their
hand for permission to speak or ask questions. Students are required to talk to
peers with respect and use appropriate language. Profanity is not acceptable.
b. Turning in Work- Students will be asked to turn in assignments at designated
times. See assignment routines.
c. Out of Seat Policies- Students will be asked to take their seats before class begins.
Students will be asked to remain in their seats during class with the exception of
participating in activities that require them to move.
Assignment Routine
a. Turning in Assignments
i. Homework Assignments- Students will be asked to turn in homework
assignments at the beginning of class in the homework tray designated for
that class, unless homework is to be graded by peers. Homework graded
by peers will be passed to the end of the row and the teacher will collect
the assignments.
ii. In-Class Assignments- In-class assignments will be passed to the end of
the row and the teacher will collect the assignments.
iii. End of Class Assignments- End of class assignments will be handed to the
teacher as students walk out the door.
b. Returning Assignments- Assignments will be handed back to students as they are
working on in-class assessments.
c. Getting back assignments- All students are encouraged to check their papers for
grading errors and ask the teacher about any questions and/or concerns.
In-Class Grading Routine
a. Exchanging Papers- Students will be asked to exchange papers with the person
sitting next to them.
b. Grading Assignments- Assignments will be graded as a class and students will be
asked to tally the number of correct answers and write that number with a plus
sign at the top of the front page.
c. Reviewing Assignments- When grading is complete students will return
assignments for review.

d. Turning in Assignments- When all assignments have been returned and reviewed
they will be passed to the end of the row and the teacher will collect the
assignments.
Grading Routine
a. Recording Grades- Grades will be recorded daily as assignments are graded and
before they are returned to students.
b. Grading Criteria- Students will be given a grading rubric for all individual and
group projects. All other grading criteria will be listed in the syllabus.
c. Parent Signature- All students will be required to get a parent signature on
randomized assignments, decided by the teacher, regardless of the grade.
Classroom Arrangement
a. Shared Materials- Shared materials will be placed on the shelf assigned to that
class at the back of the classroom.
b. Teachers Desk- The teachers desk will be placed in the front corner of the
classroom.
c. Student Desk Arrangement- Student desks will be placed in rows that can be
easily turned into group tables.
i. Student Desk Policy- Students will be asked not to place their feet on the
desks, sit or stand on the desks, and not to write on the desks.
d. Learning Center/Stations- Stations will be made of student desks.
e. Pencil Sharpener Routine- Students will be allowed to sharpen their pencils
during class, except during instruction unless approved by the teacher. No more
than two students are allowed to stand at the pencil sharpener at a time.
f. Water Fountain and Bathroom Policy- Students will be allowed to go to the
bathroom and water fountain during class one at a time. They will be asked to
return to class promptly without disrupting other classes and keeping distraction
as minimal as possible within their class.
g. Lunchroom- Students will be dismissed to lunch when lunch bell rings. The
teacher will complete assigned lunchroom duties.
Academic Feedback Routine
a. Rewards and Incentives- Students will receive rewards and incentives for
participation, cooperation, good behavior, and hard work. Students will receive
verbal recognition for a job well done, certificates of appreciation for students that
display above and beyond behavior, and possible tangible incentives such as
parties or candy for continued participation.
b. Posting Student Work- Student work will be displayed on the bulletin board in the
classroom for student and teacher recognition.
c. Communicating with Parents- Parents will receive a positive contact during the
first week of school. Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher with any
questions and/or concerns. Parents will be notified by phone, email, or letter of
academic and/or behavioral problems before the situation escalates.

d. Students Record of Grades- Student grades will be kept electronically as well as


in a grade book. Grades will be available for parents and students to view upon
request.
e. Written Comments on Assignments- Parents will receive a number of comments
on their students assignments. Positive comments will be written on all
assignments. Comments of concern and suggestions for improvement will be
written on assignments that need attention.
f. End of Year Survey- Students will be asked to participate in an end of year survey
explaining what they did and/or did not like about the class, stating their learning
experience, and any suggestions for improvement.
