Fact Finding Journal/List of Artifacts

The community that I have chosen to report on is David Eccles School of

Business at the University of Utah. I have conducted an interview with Karen Quach,
a business scholar in the community.

My interview with Karen Quach

1. Who are you, and what do you do?

I am Karen Quach and I am a sophomore majoring in marketing at the David

Eccles School of Business located at the University of Utah.
2. Are there particular Literacy Practices identifiable with the Business
Program?

Because business is so broad and can be divided into clear sections

(Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, and
Operations Management), specific literacy practices will have to be identified by
the area you are working in. A particular literacy practice overall though is that
accounting is the language of business. Every business will have to do with
finances, and if there is a firm understanding of accounting, one can essentially
run a business.
3. Are there writing styles that are preferred within Business?

The writing style in business is very formal and professional. You have to be
clear, concise, authoritative, and ethical. We must be able to refer back to sources
and also be non-biased in our writing.
4. How is reading utilized in the Business Program?

Reading is utilized in the business program to not only let the reader understand
the concepts, but must also be used to make connections and understand the Big
Picture. We must be able to take a case study, analyze, delve in deep, connect the
dots, and convince our audience by utilizing the reading material for whatever
objective we desire.
