David Nathan is my State Representative. He is serving his third term in the Michigan
House of Representative. He represents the newly formed 8th District which is composed of
portions of Detroit. He has always been a champion for education in Detroit. He has worked
closely with House leadership to enact major education reforms to make sure our kids get the
best education they deserve. In February 2010 he was appointed as Chair of the House Education
Sub-Committee on Academic Emergencies, which was formed with the purpose of reforming the
laws surrounding Emergency Financial Managers appointed to public school districts.
He was the Vice Chair of the Urban Policy Committee from (2009-2010), Nathan
sponsored legislation to protect occupants of rental properties, and empower them to expedite
legal actions against neighbors who sell or manufacture drugs in rental properties. His legislation
was overwhelming adopted by the House. For his efforts to protect landlords and tenants from
dangerous activities, He was named the 2010 Legislator of the Year by the Property
Management Association of Michigan. Before becoming a State Representative Nathan worked
in customer service and management. His sincere concern for his community led him down the
path to public service. Other committees he has served is Vice-Chair, Military and Veterans
Affairs and Homeland Security. He has also served on the Redistricting and Elections as well as
Transportation.
I was blown away by David Nathan and his track record he is well respected among his
peers as well as constituents. His accomplishments are too many to name but I did attach them.
He is devoted to his community he coaches youth in basketball as well as baseball. He is a
devoted husband and father of four children. In his life he has accomplished a lot in a short
period of public service that is commendable.

This was refreshing to see a young black man have such a positive impact on his
community and continue to serve in the capacity that he does. He passed 4 bills into law his first
term in office which to me is remarkable when you factor in the gridlock at times.
In conclusion I have enjoyed researching my candidates and getting an understanding of
who they are and what they stand for. I have a new found respect the political system when you
have men like Senator Hood and Representative Nathan advocating on behalf of my community.
